Wings of Glory 1/48 Red Tails P-51B Mustang at Wal-mart

Post by acisne » Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:10 pm

I stopped at several WMs yesterday and they were loaded with them for $7.98. Wish it was an 1/18!
There is not reference to the movie or to the Tuskegee Airmen on the packaging. It did have a tiny BBi logo on the back of the box.

Yes there's discussion on another thread, but a quick follow up to your post acisne, I don't know what part of Houston your in, but I also have seen them around the N. Houston area. I recently bought 2 doz. and have seen them already restocked. Thats where I noticed every store visited, they don't seem to be moving very well at all. Most all stores around have 7/8 stacked and a couple clerks I talked to said they were not "very good sellers". Brings up for discussion in this thread or the other, is it the product or the Wal-mart distribution ??

Hard to say. Distribution is certainly an issue with WM, it seems. But then again, some people are finding quite a few that just seem to linger on the shelves.

One problem I see, when i went back to buy another couple the stock clerk had put diecast trucks in front of the planes so you could not see them. You would never know they were there unless you read the shelf tags

I would like to find these. While I'm sure they likely have hit places in the west, my area with its four Wal Marts in an 8 mile radius gets left out. This was quite typical in the old 21c days.

I hope AllGo continues to NOT sell things at Wal Mart because I get tired of the same places in the midwest and south ALWAYS getting the new stuff while other areas go dry... Thankfullly these are not a new 1:18 aircraft.

Sorry about the rant and its really not worth it for these things, just I hate the WM distribution repeating itself again :?

Don't feel too bad Tman, they are a no-show in my AO (The South) as well.
I don't even bother looking for them anymore. I'm not into the Red Tail scheme and I have too many damn Mustangs anyhow.

I saw them at two WMs on 45s (near Clear lake and one pass Hobby) and at the one on 290 near Tidwell, and the one on 1960/Eldridge. Most had 6-10 of them. I did not get one as I collect 1/18 strictly. But a B/C P-51 would be neat to own in any scale.

Well, that's good to know  I was just getting annoyed as it seems like the old selective Wal Mart distribution thing all over again. I've actually been happier since 2008 with everything only being available through small retailers. At least I could find an item without wasting more than it costs in gas. Its funny as really only 21c items at Wal Mart ever had this distribution problem... I can typically find the Star Wars items I'm looking for and the Unimax items at Target were usually not much of a problem either.

Seems to be thinning out. Of the 2 on 1960 I went in, only 1 store had 2 on shelf, the Porter store had also emptied. I have not been to the store past 59 on the Beltway in a while, so don't know if there shelves are still stocked. Maybe this is a good sign, but with WalMart it's tough to gauge.

Found them at 2 more WM today. That makes a total of 5 stores within 40 miles of home. Looks like they restocked after they got down to 1 or 2 on the shelf. The restock does not seem to be moving
