New Axis/Allies Set II - 12/2/05!!

Post by cruizin2000 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 10:39 am

Well, let the "plastic meth" addiction continue!!

Set II is due to be released 12/2. This set is based on the Eastern Front and will have 45 new units.

There's going to be Chinese, Romanian, and Polish introduced as well as snipers, paratroopers, and cavalry.

We'll also get the Nashorn, T-34/85, IS-2, and King Tiger.

Avalon Hill has posted pics and stat cards for the Nashorn, Sherman w/hedgecutters, Cossack Captain, PIAT soldier, and JS-2.

I've already pre-ordered my two cases. 8)

An interesting point about this game. The rules have the values for all the cards. So no need to chase down all the "rares" – just use any figure or vehicle from any other manufacturer and make up your own card (or not).

There are some real nice vehicles and figures available from various companies in roughly the same scale as the Axis & Allies (15mm). Much better than what you get with the game, and you can paint them to a much better standard of those included with Axis & Allies.

With the first set there were no duplicate rares in a sealed booster case. A case has 12 boosters and there was 15 rares.

I bought a case and half and got all of the rares except for the Ha-Go and the M3 Lee. At guy at a FLGS gave me a Lee and I bought the Ha-Go from a game web site.

I'm hoping that since there's only 45 pieces in this set that they will limit the rares to 12 - buy a case and get'em all.

Atleast with the initial release we'll have all of the base pieces and the next releases will just be supplementary pieces and we won't have to buy as much. I know that I went crazy with buying pieces.

For instance, my Japanese army -
3 Ha-Go
15 Arisaka rifle
5 Imperial Sgts
10 MG teams
10 AT guns
8 Mortars

Plastic meth...I'm addicted.

This is just going to make you guys sick. My friend (the owner and fellow Axis and Allies nut) actually opened some of the boosters and gave me the rares I needed and sold his extras on Evilbay. So on my first purchase I ended up with a lot of Tigers,Panthers,Kvs,Hellcats,Jagdpanthers, ,and Easyeight Shermans. I have since painted every tank and artillery piece in my armies and am working on the men.

Nope. Just the big ones. The men were a little difficult to paint, but the end result was worth it especially the Japanese and German infantry.

The new pieces with stats are on AH's site. It looks like we're getting an Imperial Japanes sniper and a Wehrmacht Expert Sniper.

I'm gonna pass on these things. They are neat, but as I figures, mine are gathering dust already! Anyways, with all of the Heroscape stuff, I'm more than occupied at the moment!!

I agree!! 'Ski, take'em down and fight with'em!!

Those snipers are going to be cool. I like the fact that the German sniper can make a tank be disrupted for two turns. This'll help out the Germans alot.

AH has more pics of the new pieces.
It shows that we're getting:

7TPDW (Polish tank)
Wehrmarcht Oberleutnant
M5 Half-track
R-2 LT-35 (Czech tank)
PAK 40 AT gun
Cromwell IV

In their forum boards they mention at Pnzr III J as well. This will help us with early war skirmishs.

I just love things like this. :D

More new pieces w/stat cards.

SNLF Capt.
T-70 Model 1942
M24 Chaffee
SS Panzer IV F2
Kuomintang MG team
Screaming Eagle Capt.

I'm sure hoping that they make an "uncommon" Pnzr III for this set. The T-70 is an "uncommon".

We're getting no less than 4 Japanese tanks!! And 2 of them are uncommons!! That's great news!! That means we should get about 3-4 of each uncommon tank.

How's your collection and gaming been, Graycap?

AXIS & ALLIES

Post by graycap » Thu Nov 24, 2005 11:42 am

My collection is coming along nicely. My main aim is to collect the vehicles which I think are rather good. However a few weeks ago I did try out the actual game. I played solo, trying one of the introductory scenarios form AH's web site. I really enjoyed it. Sometime I think the simplest systems produce the most "realistic" result, allowing the players to try and reproduce actual tactics rather than worrying too much about thickness and slope of armour at certain ranges etc. Many years ago I played WWII miniature games using a mixture of Airfix (and other manufacturers) 1/72 models plus Roco minitanks. Alas marriage and children (all daughters!) put paid to that. I must confess I think the A & A minis concept is great one from a wargamers point of view. A wide range of models (over 80 odd models in about 10 days time!) with some outside the mainstream, all without the hassle of painting!

Have you seen the Set II gallery on the official web site? Some models look very nice - such as the King Tiger, the Pz III and the JS-II. However the one I really want is the Chinese T26! The Japanese tanks also look good. Hopefully these sets will be over here in the UK not too long after their US release. My journey home each evening from where I work in London to the tube station takes me past a game shop so from the end of next week I'll be keeping a sharp look out on their window displays.

Wonder when Set III will be available and what it wiill contain. I understand aircraft will make their appearance and it will be intereting to see what types AH will produce. I'd put my money on Stuka and a Sturmovik to begin with at least!

Hope you get the models you want on 2nd Dec. Happy minis collecting and wargaming!

One more week until the UPS man brings Set II to my door!! 8)

Graycap, Set III is due out in March 2006. I guess every three months we'll see a new set. Set III is supposed to have - AIRCRAFT!!

They've already mentioned a Stuka. I just hope that they do a good job with the rules for handling the a/c.

I wonder if there's a way to play AAM online? That would be cool!!

Well, here's my review on Set II.

Although Set I and Set II were made at the same time, Set II seems to be "improved" over Set I.

They put numbers on the German tanks as well as the British tanks. The Russian tanks have some nice winter camo on them also. More "eye candy" than Set I. Even the new Japanese tanks have rising sun flags and suns with the white circle around them.

My only problem with Set I was the oversized Hellcat. It's bigger than the E8. With Set II you get an VERY undersized M5 3" AT gun. It's on the same sized base as the PAK 38 but looks like a squid that washed up on the beach. The new PAK 40, however, sits on a base the size of an Oreo!!

The Chinese are an interesting bunch in Set II. They are removed once they receive a face up disruption marker. The T-26 tank keeps it disrupted marker once it receives one. Their MG teams act as disrupted for the remainder of the game if you roll three "1"s. Not very reliable.

The Poles cavalry units are really nice looking. The tanks are nice too. The only downside is that the tanks cost 8 points and the cavalry cost 4 points. With the 100 point/15 unit limit, it's hard to play a 100 pointer without having a ton of tanks. The 80 point Assault scenario is best for them.

I could go on and on about this but i won't. I will say that these new pieces are a great addition to the figs we got with Set I. BAR gunner, Screaming Eagle paras, more Japanes tanks, more affordable German tanks, more Russians.

Anyone else get any of these???
