Dragon to issue new 1/18 Space figures
I spoke with my dragon salesman today and he filled me in on new stuff to come. Dragon will be offering a line of 1/18 Space action figures with similar details to their previous military releases. I asked if they were thinking of more releases of their military line maybe Russians? he said they have had some discussions on that topic but with the big success of the space line of products they decided to go with them first. so i geuss its wait and see

Oh, man... I'm totally there. Looks like they've already shown their first offerings. Now if only they could come up with some capsules, and a lunar lander. Dare I dream? Got a link here to this site: http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/Forum16 ... 00742.html

And to think we could have had some new 1/18 FJs or Brits. Facepalm.
They don't even look all that realistic. Do they?

Re: Dragon to issue new 1/18 Space figures
1/18 Space figures?
Not sure what Dragon is doing lately? They have been issuing stuff in all sorts of various scales. 1/200, 1/400, 1/144, 1/72 etc. No rhyme or reason to these varying scales. A 1/144 X-15
Tiny.
These do have a tie in to their 1/72 space line, but yet another scale.

Are they going to make spacecraft to go with these figures? If so i'll buy them.

hmmm . . . I'm as much a "space nut" as I am a "militaria nut." I've actually been thinking about 1/18 real-space stuff as potential 3D printer projects . . . hmhmhmmmm ...

Think about it, you could capture the 1/18 scale space industry!gburch wrote:hmmm . . . I'm as much a "space nut" as I am a "militaria nut." I've actually been thinking about 1/18 real-space stuff as potential 3D printer projects . . . hmhmhmmmm ...
Muahhhahahhaah! (evil laugh).
It would be cool to have realistic Lunar Landers, rovers, Apollo Command capsules, shuttles. PLUS all the stuff NASA didn't do:

Things that might have been...

Re: Dragon to issue new 1/18 Space figures
i doubt they'll do a lander or capsule, but ya never know i guess. But a lunar rover i could see. If the line doesn't bomb, there are certainly a lot of interesting possibilities.

Don't all space suits look the same? I mean, collect what you like, but why do you need 27 suited figures that look exactly alike. What am I missing? I don't get it. Space craft, maybe, but identical figures, no! Even with removable helmets and different heads, they will still all be the same once you put the helmets on. If they start fantasy figures, that will be a different story.

Not at all. Just in the main line of the the US space program you've got:hotrodrock wrote:Don't all space suits look the same?
X-15 - 1
Mercury - 1
Gemini - 3 (basic, EVA, and GT7 long-duration suit)
Apollo - 6 (shirtsleeves, launch/recovery, orbital EVA, 1st lunar, 2d lunar, Skylab EVA)
Shuttle - 5 (shirtsleeves, original launch/recovery, current launch/recovery "pumpkin suit", original EVA, current EVA)
Then there are at least five in the Russian program I can think of . . .

Re: Dragon to issue new 1/18 Space figures
This could be cool. There were some 1:18-ish realistic space figures that were out over a decade ago (I forget what company made them) but they were made from a rubber-plastic and had zero articulation. Dragon's figures could at least have some articulation, removable helmets, and parts and accessories. They could be very well done. I've been very tempted to get their 1:6 scale Apollo Astronaut figure, but $150 is a bit much...
Dragon is already doing a 1:48 scale Lunar Lander and has all the 1:72 vehicles, dioramas with figures, and the smaller scale stuff.
1:18 vehicles would be dreaming, even though many of the early space capsules are obviously not very large and would be relatively easy to tool...

Your note made me go look this up -- supposed to be released in December. I'm afraid I'm going to have to get it . . .CessnaDriver wrote:1/72 Saturn V for 200 bucks.

It will be interesting to see if the stages seperate and there will be engine details.
If not it's still a great bargain.

You got me! Anyone who knows all that is definitely a "space nut"! Apparently they think there are enough out there to support this line. Guess I'm just more into sci-fi instead of reality. Get too much reality every day.

$200 for a prebuilt model. Impressive, most impressive.
