Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
It's getting late Corey, good night.
Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
I can certainly understand Corey's frustration. I have done a lot of deals on this board, but in the last couple months I have a had a couple of people irritate the heck out of me, ironically one of them has been posting in this thread. I love a good deal and often haggle, but some people just take it too far. Others just waste a lot of your time, which can be the most frustrating. However that's life and when you are dealing with others, there will always be troubles. For the most part there are a great group of guys on this board, one of the best on the internet I believe.

Dude, I'm not gonna get into a whole thing with you, that would be even a bigger waste of time. No hard feelings on my part, and I'm sorry you obviously feel guilty.

Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
Well, just to stretch this out a little longer . . . I see what happened and understand how folks on both sides of something like this can be upset. Heck, I almost bought this plane; I already have one just like it, but it's one of my favorites and, if I wasn't spending so damned much on other projects, I would have tried to snap it up.
For what it's worth, as a latecomer to this hobby and this board, my opinion is that it is actually pretty damned civil by the deplorable standards of this here interwebs thingie. This summer I was participating on a history-related board that had some really good posters on military history topics in which I'm interested. But the incredible nastiness and childishness of a good number of other posters finally drove me away. Life's too short to get drawn into stooopid flame wars with people you'll never meet and with whom you don't share any values.
Compared to that experience, this forum is a downright utopia of civility and patience. It's too easy to let the narrow bandwidth of communicating through the intertubes create misunderstandings. I think there are plenty of folks here who have the maturity and sense to let the occasional misunderstanding slide and preserve the value of a civil and valuable forum and resource.

The BST forum can be an interesting place sometimes. Corey has been around for quite sometime and is one of the major sellers here. Hardly a week goes by that I don’t see him selling something here. If this were eBay he would have a pretty high approval rating. But like eBay not every transaction can go smoothly. There will always be those that are not 100% satisfied.
It’s hard to judge this particular grievance. I have had things for sale here before and decided to keep them but never had a good, agreed on offer in hand. In this case I would end up doing what Corey mentioned and send the item once the money arrives. Sometimes we just have to do it. Refunding a money order would be a pain and truthfully not acceptable since he went through the trouble to get one. I know with my busy schedule getting out to get a money order can be a real task. If the money never arrives then no harm was done.
The BST area is a great service to our small collecting community as it gives us a chance to buy things that might be too expensive or hard to find elseware. Unfortunately it is largely unregulated and that leaves a lot of room for problems to arise. The only real rule here is that you must be a member for 6 months and actively post. Only the 6 month part of that rule is really enforced. I have seen many members with only 6 posts selling here after their time is up.
My real reason for posting here is to address another issue that Corey has brought up. The lack of fair dealings that goes on behind the scenes. I know that things happen to potential buyers and they sometimes have to recant or drop out on an item. Stuff like that happens. I feel like it’s a trend though. One that has gotten worse with time. I realize some of this is completely accidental. Busy lives and schedules can play a big part in forgetfulness. I recently was going to purchase a tank from a fellow board member here. Time went by and I ended up having to delete some PM’s for space. Now I can’t for the life of me remember who I was talking with about it. He never checked back in with me probably assuming I was one of those guys that disappear. (If you are this guy please contact me)That kind of stuff happens. What really gets me is those people that get a PM with a shipping quote or some kind of contact from me where I ask for them to “let me know”, only to never receive a reply. NEVER! They must not like what they hear and feel they are above a reply. A simple return of “I just can’t do that” would be much better. I will say that these are individuals that I have sent multiple messages to saying “please rely” and “I know you have received my message since its now out of my out box”. These people make conscious decisions to not reply. I think they are cowardly and have not guts to say that they cannot follow through. I would think much higher of them if they simply thanked me for my time and said it was more than they were expecting to pay. Period. Getting shipping quotes and negotiating is time consuming so people need to be respectful. We are a small community here and it’s not good to poop in your own back yard. Poop in the neighbors yard instead.
I have created a list of all the people that will lose out the next time I sell something here.
It’s a long list!
In conclusion I can’t really say what’s right or wrong in this particular situation. All I can say is it seems like some better communication could have probably solved it. We all have second thoughts on things but if the window of opportunity to recant a deal has passed, we sometimes have to bite it and go through with it. Like Corey said, he was willing to do this if the payment does indeed arrive.
I think in the future setting up our own rules as to how we will conduct our sales is the best way to handle things like this. Posting these guidelines in our sale threads will help potential buyers get an idea of what we expect from them. You will never be able to get rid of the tire kickers and time wasters but we can at least develop our own guidelines and feel good about how we conduct ourselves here.

By the way, this disagreement is quite tame to some things I have seen here in the past. My hats off to all parties involved for keeping it civil.

Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
Greetings:
There is no issue at all here which is entirely the problem. Mike is getting his Corsair as was promised. I had every intention on following through on this deal from the start. That is why I held the airplane while Mike got payment and sent it to me. I'm very happy Mike bought it and it is going to a good home.
The only reason I cancelled was because as in the case of two previous buyers, they promised to send money and then I never heard from either of them again. This is rather amusing because they are posting away on this forum. As toyktdlgh put it a simple reply back letting me know they couldn't follow through would have been appreciated. After dealing with this type of nonsense all summer from folks here and the family issues at home, I had had enough. I hadn't heard from Mike and assumed he was no longer interested. I told him I was cancelling and keeping the airplane because of this. Truthfully the airplane was probably going to be sold to someone else and most likely not be kept or be sold later near the holidays. I really hadn't decided at the time what to do. It would have been the third time this plane was so called sold.
I didn't know Mike had sent the payment to me because he did not tell me this. I very nearly threw it away because it was in this Mercedes Benz enevelope and we drive GM cars here, I thought it was junk mail. Mike has sent payment and Mike will be the new owner of the Corsair, which I am very pleased about. There is no issue here and never has been. I do not back out of deals, people get the stuff I promise them (and some bonus stuff sometimes) and people are pleased with it.

Corey is great to buy from. I've always received items under a week from payment. Communication is the key!
You gotta let the seller know what you are doing and vice versa!

Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
I will concur that Corey is an excellent member to deal from, as is Mikeg. I have had positive transactions with both. My positive dealings with Corey in particular go back at least to 2004-2005 and I've never had a bad transaction. I should have spoken sooner before he was railroaded and other members who have not dealt with him bandwagoned on...
Anyways, as has already been said, but which cannot be emphasized enough in a situation like this on a public forum:
COMMUNICATION IS KEY!
In a world where we only know each other by what we type on a screen and our little avatar picture, we have to be up front and honest, otherwise the whole system breaks down...
I think this thread represents only a little bump in the road for both parties involved. It sounds like nobody was scammed here and certainly from my experience with both sellers, neither is a "Bob Hughes" or "Catman" character. Both Corey and mikeg should be able to feel that they can post, buy and sell freely on here and if I see a deal that I like from either, I'll consider it

Re: 1/18 BBI F4U Corsair FS
During the summer, Corey had a 1/18 Spitfire and ME-109 for sale for $150. I sent a PM for the two, but I really only wanted the Spitfire. Corey replied someone made a very generous offer for the Spitfire he couldn't refuse, so only the ME-109 was still available. I replied that I really only wanted the Spitfire so I wasn't interested in the ME-109.
A month or so later, Corey sent me a PM saying the buyer for the Spitfire didn't follow through so it was still available. I offered half of the original $150 which he accepted, and now I have a Spitfire at a great price in great condition. That substantiates Corey's claim that some buyers don't follow through with payments.
I'm glad Corey and MikeG were able to settle their deal to everyone's satisfaction. Perhaps this transaction is an example of Strother Martin's line in COOL HAND LUKE, "What we've got here is... failure to communicate."

OK, I received the corsair today and my wife was kind enough to put the box right in the center of the living room (on the floor of course, next to the cat). It's surrounded by 8 more and, of course, the more the merrier. I'm glad I didn't get ornery due to any unforeseen circumstances or miscommunication
