1/18 German Halftrack w/Rockets (Stuka Zu Fuss)

Post by cjg476 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 11:01 pm

Can anyone tell me if this one comes with the forward firing machine gun, or just the rear firing one? The sshq shows it has a forward firing one, but the ones on ebay dont show that it has one. Thanks. Corey

When the Zu Fuss first came out, there was another tri-color hanomag that was out at the same time that did have the forward MG w/shield. I know there were several on here that used the hanomag forward MG w/shield for the Zu Fuss. But Flyboy and Normandy are right, it did not come originally with the Zu Fuss.

Yeah, I posted the same question a few months back asking if my 251 was the weird one out. Since then the MG42 mount and shield from a broken 251/1 has been serving its place on my stuka za fuss, and looks great. But don't be too dissapointed that it didn't come out of the box with it; the shield has only a limited x axis movement (up and down) and the magazine must be removed from the MG42.

P.S. normandy i+s grea+ +oo see your keyboard is up and running again!

Thanks guys...I found that you can still purchase one for a reasonable price...but without the forward gun and shield...makes me feel like its been neutered...

The MG is NOT supposed to move on the shield. The real one the MG moves with the shield.

AFAIK not all the Stukas had the MG up front or back. I like it! 21st did a pretty good job! Of course I repainted mine.

21st did a great job with these 251 halftracks, there many customs that can be made using them.
The 251/1 is worth adding to your collection if you don't have one.

B17Fortress, thanks man. The new one (apple wireless) arrived Wed.
It was strange, certain letters worked only after repeated typing......others didn't work at all.
Must have been a worm in the apple.

21c Stuka zu Fuss Halftrack did not come with the MG-42 & shield up front. Here's a picture of a boxed example from an ebay auction (not mine) :

Image

As the vehicle uses the standard 21c halftrack tooling with only minor modifications, its a simple process to add the MG-42 shield piece from the standard 21c SDK 251 Halftrack.

On Stuka zu Fuss, you have to remove the driver compartment top cover, then pry off the front window glacis. The glacis is a seperate piece that is affixed, different from the standard halftrack tooling where the roof and windows are one piece. Perhaps a little sanding to file down any glue residue. Then you should be able to fit the window/roof/gun shield piece from a standard halftrack easily in place. You will have to repaint the gun shield/window glacis piece to match the rest of the Stuka zu Fuss halftrack or give the whole thing a new paint job. I found that the S4 paint scheme for the SDK 251 had the best base color that could be matched to the Stuka zu Fuss:

the rockets are easy to remove and put on another sdkfz 251. I didn't like the paint scheme that 21c chose, as i wanted a more russian front looking scheme for my zu fuss, so i took the rockets off the zu fuss i had and put them on good ole 'white 13', as pictured above by Tman. Looks great and gun shield problem autiomatically solved. I then used the leftover halftrack that had the rockets on it for a custom project.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

21st also omitted the aiming sights on the production model, seen on the pre production photo. I thought 21st's paint scheme was pretty ugly on this one and ambush scheme's on 251's would be pretty rarely seen according to available info and 1 or 2 existing photo references.
Definitely needs the Mg and shield added up front though.

Well I got lucky and got the #13 on ebay this morning for $36 dollars so lucky me...but if I wouldnt have been able to get it I was going to buy one of the the stuka zu fuss...but without the gun and shield it just doesnt look right....I really was looking for the pak 40 one or the pioneerwagen? i think its called but those are few and far between...I found a pak 40 hanomag this morning on ebay...it was just listed..but they wanted around $90...its hard to let go of that much money...maybe someday....

Yeah $90 is too much for one of these. Keep looking, I'm sure you should be able to find one for a more reasonable price.

Shoot, I recall when TRU was letting those go for $14  I bought an extra one for that price and literally scrapped it for a custom project that I still haven't finished. No way I'd do that for $90. The Pak-40 Hanomag is my favorite of the SDK-251s and if you can get one for the $40-$50 range, you are in luck!

I bought mine off of Foxhole Toys for around $50 and the same 251 you mentioned cost me $40. When it arrived, the axel was in too and one wheel was detached. The seller said it was the shippers fault, and I just sucked it up and used its MG shield on my stuka.

Gotta love that evilbay.

As far as I can remember, my hobby store never carried any of the halftracks exept for the pioneerpanzerwagen until their %50 off sale in 2008. Then they got every single one and almost all items 21st made at the time. I could have walked out of that store with arm loads of tanks, figures (at a special $2 each!) and those dodge trucks, but I only bought that one halftrack :( .

If only I had known what would become of 21st in a few months...

Cutting Arrow did an awesome Ostfront version, you can see it in the back ground of these pics. Anyone know what happened to him? He did some great work!
