Does the 1/18 th world need a Vietnam era Cobra Gun Ship ?

I am having my lunch and whenever I stay still things pop into my head.

Sometimes this can be scary.

Not this time. I know 21st made the Super Cobra but not the Viet type.

Are they too close to make a difference ? Should this be done?

Should I go back out to the shop and make more stuff ?

Do I eat a granola bar or cup cake with my coffee ?

lots of differences.....it depends on how accurate you want to make it. If you want 100% accurate you'll need to almost do it from scratch. If you want something that looks sorta right, you just need to do the nose and canopy.

The problem is that 21c cobras are hard to get and expensive.

Do you mean you want to make a complete brand new helicopter from scratch, or making custom parts for one so people could mod a 21st Cobra into a Vietnam-era one?

The AH-1G and the AH-1W are worlds apart. I don't think you can retro fit a 21st W into a G. There's more work involved than turning a Charlie Huey onto a Delta.

That said, i'd much rather seen an H-13.

No I was not going to cut up a Cobra. I do not even have one. I know the Cobra used the same engine as the Huey.

I was going to use a Huey's engine , rotors , skids maybe some cockpit details and the fusesalage boom. But otherwise start from the ground up.

They are going for $100 plus easy for a fairly modern one. So I was thinking maybe double that and you would have a custom backdated version that will never be made in our life time.

H-13:

You might be able to use the Huey rotors, tail boom and exhaust nozzle, but there's gonna be alot of work elsewhere.

The Spitfire is lined up after the 222.

I was just having lunch and this idea poped into my mind.

I thnk the Viet Cobra would be cool.

If done this would be a COMPLEAT KIT.

I'm pretty sure (but don't quote me) that the original AH-1 and UH-1 shared the entire rear section and rotors. You could use a Huey to cast the rear section.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread, but I would rather see some experimental aircraft. Like the German Stealth Fighter/Bomber they had on one of the cable channels.

Some items along this line I think are interesting enough and unique to the point that there are no rules as to how they were painted, deployed or even marked.

And, just because there is a company making the Komet, why can't there be a competitive but affordable offering instead?

I'm just suggesting some ideas, looking outside the box. I think a Cobra is a great idea as well!

You are talking about the Horton Ho- 229 flying wing. I had this up as well as the Me-163 on one of my aircraft polls. The tropical Spitfire with clipped wings came up in first place .

The Me-163 came up second. I will be doing both if the interest is still there.

I wish all I had to do is make the prototypes and I could do all of these. But I need to make copies and reproduce all of what I make . In order to make money.

some time back a member did a zero floatplane conversion,it looks like it was only a one off. with the ready available zero's out there &resonable in price,it would seem a natural to do and fill a much needed ww2 float plane niche.this i would think would not be so time and or cost consuming..HOW ABOUT IT MATHEW? also maybe there could be some help fromVMF114 or was it 115 as he had already done it. i for one would be interested.
