How much time do you have for hobbies?

Post by flyboy_fx » Thu Sep 01, 2011 2:05 pm

It seams for me some weeks are busier then others. Usually I'm free but the past couple weeks I have had little time to model. I need to finish up my bunker projects! Painting our decks is taking up some time. :) :P What about you guys?

I am not quite sure what to select... how about 'whenever I can and as long as I can'?

I've wondered this myself many times - how much time do others have to devote to this hobby? Looking at the customs of some of you on here, clearly it is A LOT of time! For me my ~5 hrs. per week seems like it flys by in no time, and I think I could easily double or triple that amount without feeling bored in the least.

I'm lucky if I get an average of an hour a day, but sometimes I'm lucky and will get a good clear weekend when I can devote 9-10 hours over a couple of days.

I've struggled a lot with this, over the past year. Since the birth of my second child, free time has been at a premium, for both my wife and I. I use to have at leat 5-7 hours a week I could commit to hobbies, this was also how I created revenue for my hobbies. I hope once the kids are a little older I,ll have more time again.

I am in the exact same boat, I only have a couple hours most weeks.

Work, extra work, kids, houses, cars... Yeah, hobbies are so far removed half the time.

I multi-task like crazy, I work from home, so I have built myself a workbench area where I can build, airbrush or whatever, I have my CPU screens behind the work bench on the wall so I can work and "work" at the same time.

I never seem to have time :-(. I had to make time for the B-25 after it sitting there taunting me for a year and a half when I would see the box in the garage. I bought a complete setup for airbrushing a month ago as I really want to learn how to paint and weather but I haven't even had time to open the compressor box yet :-(

Difficult to define how much time I involve myself in 1/18 and 1/16 and 1/6, repairing and building, and reading about, doing research, setting up projects and actually doing them, shopping for new projects in net sites.

AND, spilling over into other hobbies.

I'd say 8-10 hours a week would be a very Conservative estimate. At least that would be my answer I would give Mrs. TTT if she asked. 8)

Probably alot more...... but what else do I have to do? Eight to ten active projects lined up from my workbench in my man cave out to shelf sitting in the garage, while still digging around looking for 1/6 radio equipment for my latest project..... it never ends...

Not much time, though if you count my daily check in here, I'm guessing 15 to 10 minutes a day.

As an X automobile painter, and model builder, I keep thinking I will have enough time and expertise to start doing custom painting and weathering on my large collection of 21stC toys eventually, but so far it's not happening. At least I can come here and admire other's work. Some who just blow me away with their knowledge and detail. Even watched the progress of some who were novices, turn into experts in a very short time, so it's encouraging.

My other hobby, being a guitarist in a rock band, has turned into my work, as it's the only thing I can get right now in this economy. Thank goodness I had the passion, or obsession to pursue getting good at it, so now it's the only thing keeping me alive...barely. So my hobby is my work now, though not my other passion of military models right now, as I'd like it to be :?

So 4 to 6 hours.
