SNJ WIP Tank Thread

Post by SuRrEaLNJ » Fri Oct 14, 2005 12:55 pm

Since i know how much Steel Bonnet has been in to this project, I figured Id share this with you guys over here over here. I started this on about 8/22 and still have a ways to go on her. The basic idea behind the project was to create a tank of my own design and build it from as close to scratch as possible. The only things i havent fabricated thus far on it are the road wheels, idler drive sprokets and treads. Everything has been made out of various thicknesses of sheet styrene, as well as styrene rods, tubing etc.
Let me know what you think!

Heres the pics: WIP Tank

And heres the original thread that contains all of my ramblings and updates through the course of the project

Woooooo ! Is this the 1/16 tank that you're trying to get parts for ? Man, what a project. Impressive ! Looks like you're well on your way with it. Good luck on it too ! No, really, I mean it.

Can't wait to see the end result. Will some Tamyia parts help ? They are kind of expensive, especially for a project of this magnitude.

With what Jay`s done to date is fantastic & using 1/16th parts will just send it over the edge I think as being truely Kick Ass.

Something different & something 100% scratchbuilt, should be most impressive :D

tamiya parts would help, but im trying to find something other than one of the turned metal barrels for cost reasons, like maby a stock barrel someone replaced with a metal one, etc

Geeze, I could probably make you one. I used to make jet aircraft engine parts for the Gov't., but i'm sure you need something more precise, HAHAHAHAHAHA !! No pun intended. Just me. :P

i think i just found my solution
Image

its from a "Hobby Zone" 1/16 abrams, and its plastic, wich means its alot more cost efective then a turned aluminum one and will be easier for me to work with

i picked up one of these abrams form Raiderad6 a while back, so i already know it'll be almost perfect for my tank

mg, apreciate the offer, but i dont know if you could machine a part to the same exact tolerances i hold my work to. Thank god for squadron putty :P
