Around The Airport

Post by Coreyeagle48 » Thu Aug 04, 2011 11:17 pm

Greetings:

Most of you know my photography from the airshows but I also have been doing photography of a different kind lately.

Earlier this year I found a great park with a walking trail, picnic area and pond near my home airport, Lehigh Valley International Airport. One day I took the camera there and found it is a great spot to watch aircraft on arrival to the airport.

So these are just a few shots I took of some commerical aviation. Totally off topic, but something different.

Enjoy!

Corey

FedEx Express operates a hub at Lehigh Valley International and flies in two jets each day. I was lucky to catch one of their Airbus 300's arriving early on a Friday morning. Usually these planes arrive before dawn but due to weather in Memphis (FedEx Headquarters) this jet was delayed.

AirTran Airways operates out of the airport flying to Orlando, FL. They fly the Boeing 717 and are one of the only airlines to operate the type (I think the only one in the US now). AirTran Airways recently merged with Southwest Airlines and these aircraft will eventually be trading in their AirTran scheme for the Southwest scheme.

Allegiant Airlines operates out of the airport to Myrtle Beach, St. Petersburg-Clearwater and Orlando-Sandford. They fly McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series jets. A lot of their jets have quite a history with other operators as Allegiant purchases them from other airlines. This one just beat rainy conditions on its arrival from Myrtle Beach, SC.

A lot of smaller regional jets and turboprops operate out of the airport including DeHavilland Dash 8's from US Airways Express. These are operated on a connecting flight to Philadelphia. That always amuses me because with delays, security and everything else...you can probably just drive to Philadelphia faster.

These little Saab 340B's are operated by Colgan Air as United Express flights. These aircraft operate on the Lehigh Valley to Washington D.C. route. This one is painted in the United Express scheme but some are painted in the colors of Colgan Air itself.

American Eagle operates Embraer ERJ regional jets into the airport from Chicago. It is easy to tell Chicago is a busy airport because these flights are almost always a bit late in arriving. Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace company and some military aircraft fans here might know them as the company that makes the Tucano trainer flown by the Brazilian Smoke Squadron flight team.
