Red Tails - January 20, 2012
Here is the trailer for the movie Red Tails
http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810095581/video/26098678
Looks like it will be a good movie with some great stars (and I'm talking P-51s and Me-262s ). This would be a great opportunity for AllGo or anybody to get their 1/18 molds back from the Chinese and produce some planes! With all the media attention given at the time of release there will most definitely be an increased awareness of WWII and the planes that fought it. This is THE chance these companies need to make people aware of their products and rejuvenate the hobby. Even if there is no licensed Red Tails product out there, the normally produced planes could definitely move as long as it resembles what is on screen.

animation is great. The sky looks a bit cluttered in some of the scenes but overll the look is good. This seems like it may be a bit more sensationalized than Tuskeegee Airmen but still looks promising.
This would be a really, really good opportunity for AllGo to reissue their Tuskeegee P-51 and a 109, if they can. I'm sure they're aware of the opportunity, i hope they can take advantage of it somehow.

I would pay the ticket to sit in a theater for that one, even though I wouldn't expect the same attention to detail/authenticity as say Band of Brothers/The pacific. But, I would be happy to be proven wrong.
I did notice that one of the scenes where the Mustang did a snap flip over and then shot down the 109 is identicle to what, I believe that it was Robin Olds, did and was recreated for Dog Fights series on the Military Channel.
That would be a great opertunity for the 1/18 planes. I would only hope to do another name/number on them as to not detract from what has been produced. Maybe do Lee Archer's plane.
I would support those.

Finally someone putting Star Wars-style special effects to the air battles of World War II! It had to be Lucas. Completely accurate or not, at least it will get the scale, speed, and intensity of the WWII air campaigns to generations of people that know them only from black & white pictures and documentaries, if at all. Awesome
Really should have gotten that 21c Tuskeegee P-51 when I had the chance. Heck they were at TRU. I agree this would be a golden opportunity for Allgo to get its rear in gear. Joe Average is going to want a toy P-51 after seeing this

I'm sure they've done a film just like that, why should I pay to see something that's already been done.
But lets hope something in 1/18 comes to fruition from this

Island Raider, thanks for the Intel.
Looks like a great film about an extraordinary group of Pilots.
The Tuskegee red tail P-51 is one of best paint schemes in my opinion. Lets see if AllGo can get some out in time, I sure would like one.

Wow! You can see the influence of all the Star Wars saga battles.
Some authenticity in the early Tuskeegee P-40's.
Only Lucasfilm Industrial Light & Magic could have pulled this off with this detail in CGI.
I will go to a theatre to see this.
If this doesn't do anything to revive the 1:18 market in some way (at least with planes) nothing will. Star Wars like battles only with planes, what's not to like for kids and adults?

"Tuskegee Airmen" already covered this story only a decade ago.
It is a great story, with lots of lessons that can be taken from it, but again it has already been done.
But that won't stop me from watching it again.

Yeah that's really what I meant, but good of you to point that out. Lucas studied air war footage to adapt in his films.aferguson wrote:"You can see the influence of all the Star Wars saga battles"

Makes you wonder what he is capable of doing in this area of expertise now. There's so many stories that could be told or retold. I can think of a few where the planes don't exist anymore, or at least in any great numbers. They use later models etc. The public doesn't know that there were no P-40N's in Pearl Harbor or Hellcats in Midway though.

Looks cool but they still have WW2 aircraft doing 50 G turns. Why can't they just study they way these planes really fly? This is not Star Wars!

Re: Red Tails - January 20, 2012
Some things in that trailer that just seemed so wrong. I counted 16-18 P-51s that looked like they had all taken off at the same time in formation on a paved runway that looked about a quarter of a mile wide. I've seen actual footage of a few fighters taking off at once, but not 16-18 planes. As mentioned earlier, just too much maneuvering inside the bomber formations and it looked like they shot down as many ME-262's in that one engagement as were actually shot down in the whole war. And I have yet to hear a single WWII pilot admit to saying something like "wooohooo, I'm gonna get you Nazi bastards" while on the tail of a ME-109. OK, so its only a movie, but I hate it when they say things like that.
Not saying the cinematography is not great. Guess its just because war movies are my favorite genre, loved them since the mid 50's. Probably why I'm so critical of them. I guess Pearl Harbor was a big hit at the cinema but I thought it was one of the most unrealistic war movies ever made when compared to what actually happened. And again, I know its only a movie. All said though, glad I picked up one of the Red Tails back when they were available. My favorite P-51. Prices on ebay will probably sky rocket.

This is a definite must see movie!!
Re: Red Tails - January 20, 2012
i imagine the upcoming Dambusters movie will have equally impressive CG. Just hope they don't sensationalize these types of movies too much. The real stories are already sensational enough.

Ooooh can't wait. And I agree, the true stories are really powerful in and of their own right to carry onto the big screen.
As for toys, while it would be great to see 1/18 models role out for this film, I'd also love to see the 1/144s show up again too.

Re: Red Tails - January 20, 2012
I will go see it. A tub of popcorn and get lost away in a time long ago, away from the the modern daily grind is a great way to spend an evening. If it turns out to be a stinker, it surely would not be the first bad movie I sat thru.
As far as 21st/Four Star Military/AllGo doing a spinoff of 1/18 products, I don't see it. Several of their last announced releases were cancelled and they have produced -zero- XD in several years now. Aside from the 2 FSM repaint releases at Target, and the soon to be released 2 AllGo repaints, they have been a non-factor. If by a extreme long shot they indulge in product marketing any items thru this movie, I feel 1/32 would be their best bet for sales and revenue to invest in future releases. The situation with mold ownership plus the announcement, then quick cancellation of "Passion Wagon" leaves me doubtful they could roll out XD movie merchandise while the movie is "hot" so to speak. To maximize sales, the products would need to be available while the movie runs, not months after it has gone to DVD rental. The public, unlike guys on this board, sometimes has a limited interest $pan.
Rant over...Now pass the popcorn.

All Go. All Go. All Go.
Please. Please. Please.
Hopefully All Go has with its P-51 mold - the P-47 and P-40 molds, too.
That's 3 red tail planes repainted from existing molds All Go still has, hopefully.\

Re: Red Tails - January 20, 2012
they definitely still have the p-51 mold. The others i doubt. Only the P-51 would be a good release for this movie. Most buyers aren't going to be as interested in redtail thunderbolts and p-40's.
The Mustang and 109 would be good releases though, if they could be marketed right. Maybe the 262 as well. But i think AG only has access to the Mustang anymore.
It would be nice if they had put thunderbolts in the movie too, since they have p-40's but it doesn't look like it. The scene in the trailer with a Mustang strafing the german destroyer: well, that really happened and the destroyer was sunk, but it was a P-47 that did the strafing not a P-51.

ECH>>>> Looks like a video game... And those ME262 look just awful! Nasty ass color scheme... I have a feeling that the star wars type dogfights will not fully be out of this...
