Any Interest In Armor Tow Cables ?

Post by pickelhaube » Wed Jul 13, 2011 6:58 am

None of the Shermans come with tow cables. Most of them carried at least one.

The Tigers and Panther cables look like pooh.

Is there any interest in tow cables for them ? I made a set for my t-34 projects.

I would make a custom end for the Sherman and copy/modify the ends off of the Tiger . Which should work for the panther as well.
Cost $10 a set and about $17 for painted. Shipped. These can fit in an envelope.

I would paint the ends and weather the new cables. The colors would be OD green panzer gray and panzer yellow.

Kind of hard to see in this pic. But I will be using REAL cables.

Tow cables would be cool. A nice practical accessory. I'm surprised no one like Build a Rama has made them yet...

I did once make my own using what I think was some sort of framing wire I found in my garage. I looped the ends and tied them off using a thinner wire. I made a about three lengths of cable before I ran out. The wire was near-perfect for 1:18 scale. I use a couple cables on Panzer IVs and another on a Sherman. Below is a good picture of one of my first example on my DAK Panzer IV (couldn't find a good photo of the one on the Sherman).

Depends on where you look. The R/C Panzer IV retailed at Wal Mart for $50 about 4 years ago, but many were discounted for half that much. The one pictured I got from a board member for $25 a few years ago and then customized and repainted. I wouldn't expect to pay that cheap of a price now for one, even on this board, but it depends on where you look. Outside of the board, ebay would be your best bet and I've paid retail prices for RC Panzers there lately. Currently, however, a search revealed none. There were also two non R/C diecast versions: the S1 and the Euro Exclusive with side skirts, but those are much more costly and hard to find. Good luck :D

The thread got sidtracked  Actually, I would be interested as it would save me from making my own and I've got more tanks that need them :D

Oh Sorry about that, just got excited.

I would love a few for my Bradley or my Bravo Team Tiger.

tow cables do sound like a great idea. Lots of different guys make stowage of different kinds for the tanks but none make tow cables.
