It has come down to them being able to get the 1/16 Kit for the elephant to my door for $196

If anyone wants to talk to them the email is....

Shirley Shen <shirley@hooben.com>
Thats what she quoted me, gave me the paypal address and everything. She said I would have to pay an additional $8 for a paypal fee but that was it.

Im waiting on a response from her as I asked her after payment how soon could
I expect a tracking number.

that sounds like the wholesale price plus shipping to me. I wonder if she's goofed and quoted you a dealer price. She may change gears in her next email.

I hope heng long makes one....prebuilt and would be about half the (normal) price of the Hooben.

Nope, she just confirmed the price for one unit and she said if I pay now it will ship out mid July. My only problem is Paypal does not cover you after 45 days I think it is, and this will be 30 days plus 30-50 days shipping, so if I get a potato or Osama's head in the mail Im screwed. right?

call paypal and ask them if they give extended protection in cases like this. They might, in situations of pre-order such as here and also custom made items that take time to produce.

I will do that! thanks!

I sent her an email that said "I told all my friends and the fourm about this so do I get a free tank?" and she replied back with this...

Dear John,

Thanks for your help. I would like to sent one to you if i am the boss of the company.
How about you organize the ones who are interested in the tank. Then I can give you some discount as the following.

3pcs 20%
4-11 30%
12-99 35%
100-499 40%
500-999 45%
I can ship the goods to the place that you appoint.
Best regards.

Shirley

(I live in California if anyone really wants to do this....
I dont think we could get to the 100+ but it seems there is alot of intrest here in this and I would think we could get to the 4+ which is 30% off!
30% off of $138 is $41.40 off or $96.60)

$96.60+$58 shipping + $8 paypal fee = $162.60

Im getting one if paypal will extend my coverage, if there are 3 or more guys who want to go in on this with me Ill wait to place the order till some time next week.
If we do it, when I get them I will divide up the order and ship out the tanks via whatever service you want, USPS parcel post w/delivery confirmation is my usual shipping I use when mailing models but it will be up to the buyer, I figure parcel post in the US should be around $15 so its still a savings of about $25 off the $196.
Let me know

Let me know guys...

Does anyone know what the quality of Hooben tanks is like? If they're durable and if the treads work without all of the RC components, I am all game for this beauty!

That I dont know, I dont care about the track strength myself, its going to be a static model on a shelf. The pictures look good.

Aaah, you're talking about the static kit, without drive gearboxes, recoil unit, elevation and rotation gearboxes. I checked my price list they sent me (in euros) and I see it's quite less than a regular kitset.

Sorry for confuse....
it is the static kit, without drive gearboxes, recoil unit, elevation and rotation gearboxes.
And delivery to USA by china post by SAL:that means delivery by airmail+by sea..
it will cost around 60-70days to arrive at USA.so the freight cost is very low...

Am I reading this correctly? Say a super discounted price of $97 plus $58 shipping to CA, plus $8 PP fee plus $15 for shipping in the U.S.? Plus 60-70 days shipping to the U.S. from China?

And for this we get a kit from a manufacturer we are not familar with? The pics look good, but who can tell until somebody gets their hands on one?

For the moment, I'll pass.
