Now, if only I could also figure out how to fabricate the proper pitot tube to replace the silly tube they gave us on that 1/32 model...

very nice repaints on those 190's. you can never run short of paint configurations for these.

That's the one I want to do also. While the Pearl P-40 Trumpeter kit link Molon Lave posted is nice, it's doesn't have retractable landing gear like our 21stC P-40's. I know the detail is not that great but it's nice to have something you can hang up or put on the ground and vise versa at will (they're toys)nooker21 wrote:I've primed my 1/32 P-40 and wanted to do the Pearl Harbor scheme like its 1/18 cousin (since it's a simple paint scheme to experiment), but I cannot for the life of me find a 1/32 decal sheet (checked both online and the local hobby shops). Anyone have a source of either decals or a way to produce masks for it? I'm just getting back into the modeling part of the hobby myself and want to practice my skills. It's such a simple scheme, I probably could rely on masks for most of it if only I knew how to create them...

The Pearl Harbor Tomahawks should have been issued before 21st folded.

I'm guessing the Flying Tigers ones would be the best to convert. Which could get expensive. I'd almost convert the other Brit P-40's but it would probably be real tough to get that back canopy piece (fuselage glass) which has the desert camo under it. Whereas the Flying Tiger it's already olive green underneath. Plus you wouldn't necessarily have to paint the canopy either. Are the back canopy pieces hard to take off anyone?
BTW: Nice FW's Harry!

Re: Repainting 21st Century 1:32 planes
I popped off the back P-40 glass pretty easily, but then I haven't glued it back on yet. I'm thinking about drilling out the gas cap on it, if I'm feeling ambitious, but right now the project is on hold until I can figure out how I'm going to do the paint scheme. I'm thinking masks now, but I need a decent tutorial on how to make them in the right scale and everything. Haven't looked around the web much for that, I'm sure there's a few out there...
Yeah, I am using a flying tigers one that I messed up the paint on and replaced the fuselage guns with brass tubing. Still in its primer stage, so this could be awhile before I get cracking again. Have to build up my airbrush skills first (I've never used one before and I like what I can do with it)...

Re: Repainting 21st Century 1:32 planes
You could just copy the 1:18 PH Tomahawks if you have one for reference.
The Flying Tigers one is probably the best repaint candidate. That makes a difference being able to take the fuselage glass off, which after looking at mine, there's some brown underneath it anyways so it has to come off.
Still it might be hard to match the 21stC olive perfectly and do spot painting here and there. That could be a pain in itself.
You might not even have to paint all of the undersides though as it has that Army grey the same as the 1941 P-40's I think. Except up there where the teeth overlap on the nose, and the little tail stripe which goes around the rear fuselage.
Might even be able to use the blue circles (minus the optional Chinese Nationalist star decal) for the US star with red dot with some careful masking.
I don't have any extra Flying Tigers (though I have to check for certain) and the cost of them almost makes it prohibitive. I do have an extra South African (minus the teeth) though which would involve a complete repaint. It's good you can remove that fuselage glass, as that's really the sticky point of a complete repaint. They can be had a little cheaper than the other P-40B/C's. Plus need two to do both Taylor and Welch.
A couple of Pearl Harbor Zeroes (which 21stC made) hanging from the ceiling and both Taylor and Welch P-40's chasing them would be beyond awesome IMO.
