Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional Yamato-Class Battleships

Ready-made, plastic, full-hull, 1:700 scale warships, Takara's IJN Yamato-Class Battleships can be separated into seven (7) different cross-sections! Additionally, there are cutaway features such as the main gun turret, the superstructure, and the smokestack! While these models are pre-painted and pre-assembled, they aren't finished. Finishing them will require minor assembly of small detail parts that will have to be cut loose from a plastic sprue tree. Also, placards for the display stands and the Rising Sun Flag will need to be cut out of the full-color information/assembly sheets that come with each section box.

The Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional IJN Yamato-Class Battleships ship in a 7 x 2-matrix display case box. Typically, Japanese Candy Toys are sealed in unit boxes that "blind" the collector as to their contents until they're actually opened. Plus, unit boxes are randomly sorted into the display case box. However, that is not necessarily the case with the cross-sectional Yamatos, as you can be assured of getting the correct sections for a single battleship if you choose all of the boxes either from the front or back row. If you were to randomly choose containers from the front and back rows of a display case box, your ship will likely have mismatched sections.

Therefore, each display case box allows you to assemble two (2) complete ships. Two (2) of the ships are regular releases, the Late Yamato and the Musashi. A rare, limited-edition Early Yamato with lighter-colored deck planking is also available. Finally, there is a very high tech-looking Tour Boat in some of the Section 1 boxes, which is also a rare, limited-edition model. Since Section 1 is usually interchangeable between the Late Yamato and the Musashi, the Tour Boat can go with either ship, but NOT the Early Yamato.

I have the following three (3) models available:

2 x Late Yamato
1 x Musashi

All of the sealed unit boxes have been opened and inspected. They have been resealed with 3M Removable Magic Tape, which has the adhesive used on their Post-it Notes and shouldn't damage the printing on the boxes. Additionally, I've attached gold foil labels to the boxes over their UPC barcodes so that I can easily distinguish the boxes from one another.

I will be charging $34.95 for the Late Yamato or Musashi. I have one (1) Section 1 box with the Tour Boat in it, so if you want this limited-edition item, then the cost of your model will increase to $39.95. I'll be taking PayPal and Money Orders for these transactions and will quote you shipping via USPS and UPS Ground. If you buy at least two (2) ships from me, I'll send them in their original display case packaging for your amusement!

If you are interested in buying one or more of these models, please PM me with the following information:

a) What model(s) do you want? The Late Yamato or Musashi WITHOUT the Tour Boat is $34.95. But, the Late Yamato or Musashi WITH the Tour Boat would be $39.95.

b) How are you planning on paying for your purchase? If it's via PayPal, you or I will need to exchange an e-mail address to send or receive money. If it's by Money Order, I will provide a mailing address where payment can be sent.

c) Where will I be shipping your model? When you provide me with a delivery address, I will quote you for the additional shipping charges through these carriers: USPS and UPS Ground. Since UPS Ground does charge extra for delivery to a residential address, when you give me your delivery address, please indicate whether it is a residence vs. a commercial/business address, so that this particular quote will be as accurate as possible.

Your prices seem fair. Just a few questions. Why not send the boxes with the purchase of one ship? Are other ships available? Do you know anything about the the Starblazer Yamato?

The display case box holds 14 unit boxes in a 7 x 2-matrix. If you really wanted the display case box, but only wanted to buy a single battleship, I could fold the box flat for you. Otherwise, I would have to put packing peanuts inside the case box to fill the void left by the missing seven unit boxes. However, please be advised that I only have one display case box remaining.

Takara's Ships of the World is a mixed-standardized scale line of models, mostly ranging from 1:144 to 1:1000 scale. They've always made WW2-era and modern submarines in 1:700 scale, but lately, they've also been making destroyers, but NOT cross-sectional versions.

I'm a little behind, but it looks like I'm going to have nine (9) Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional JMSDF Kongo-Class Guided Missile Destroyers available for sale. Furthermore, I'll be obtaining cross-sectional IJN Yahagi-Class Cruisers in January.

The pricing on the Space Cruiser Yamato seems a little steep at $79.99. Candy toys are supposed to be inexpensive, as they are intended to be sold in Japanese convenience stores. A good rule of thumb should be that unit box pricing starts at $5, so a $10/box price point looks more like someone is trying to take advantage of people that might not know any better. I still snicker at the guy who's trying to get $20-25 per box for the Battlestar Galactica candy toys in the consignment display at my local hobby shop, especially since they're not even the rare, limited-edition models, like the Gold Cylon Centurion or the Battlestar Pegasus.

I may consider obtaining cross-sectional Space Cruiser Yamato display case boxes. I basically want to limit my Sci-Fi candy toy purchases to American properties, as I don't want to make a bad guess as to the popularity here in the States for such things as Gundam, Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Yamato, Macross, etc. Besides, I'm sure that there are plenty of Anime/Manga retailers out there to serve those needs.

I'm not sure about the modern stuff, but the Yahagi Class Cruiser would be something I would definately be interested in!! Well, how much are you asking for the Kongo class Destroyer?

I'll let you know how good the Yamato is when I get it in the mail.

I am interested in all cross-sectionals. If you are indecisve about an investment, contact me. My group may be able to indicate interest in a particular item. I am awaiting Ski's review. This is a very good thread. I hope it stays active. Thanks gavman.

It looks like display case boxes for the Bandai Yamato Mechanic File contain eight unit boxes, which would correspond to all of the cross-sections making up the Space Cruiser Yamato. What I've been doing lately is buying four display case boxes of candy toys, hoping to make at least one round lot (complete set) and then selling off any extra models (odd lots). I've come to discover that four display case boxes probably only make up half a master carton. Now, if I were to purchase my usual four display case boxes, keeping one ship for myself, or eight case boxes, presumably a whole Yamato Mechanic File master carton and again keeping one of the ships, I think that I can swing a price point closer to $40-45 per each Yamato.

Regarding Bandai's Yamato Mechanic File, it is highly likely that one display case box will complete the ship, unless Bandai includes 'chase' pieces (which will still probably complete the ship but with variation). I am not sure why that website states they get it next year when it is due to arrive end of this month in Japan.

Candy toys usually on average range from 80-144pcs per carton, which is around 8-12 display case boxes. Exception would be Takara's candy toys, which are always standard of 12pcs x 4 display case boxes for total of 48pcs per carton.

The reason why that particular website is charging that price is that as the assortment is not absolutely confirmed they probably need to take into account all the extra pieces which may not form a ship and hence be unsellable...

Hope the info helps...

My previous post on release date of Spacecruiser Yamato Mechanic File was wrong, it is slated for late Dec. Apologies for the error!

I'll pass on the Space stuff. I would like to get more of the 1:700 scale ships, though! I just got another Yamato (Musahi) and 2 Kongos from Gavin. Excellent! Looking forward to seeing new cross sectionals and maybe some of the 1:700 ships of the world series......

I hadn't heard the term chase pieces before, but it's highly appropriate and not as long-winded as my use of phrases like rare, limited-edition, and premium, especially when I string a few of those together. The chase piece in the Takara Cross-Sectional Yamato is the Tour Boat, which is available in some of the Section 1 boxes. Hopefully, if there are chase pieces in the Bandai Cross-Sectional Space Cruiser Yamato, they'll be things like space fighters, which won't interfere with the compilation of a whole ship.

Going a little further off-topic, I have some box-scale Furuta Star Trek Alpha (http://www.furuta.co.jp/products/candyt ... dex.htm#01) display case boxes on hand, and should have them cataloged and ready for sale shortly. Also, I've just placed an order for some box-scale MegaHouse Cosmo Fleet Yamato (http://www.megahouse.co.jp/products/foo ... index.html) display case boxes.
