AHA -- sorry; I get it. So we builders (even the ham-fisted ones like me) will get parts we can screw OR glue together. I think the last comment above is still missing the point -- If Pickel's building for you, you need to express a preference, because that's how he's doing all of them that he's building for others, as opposed to kits the builders will get -- right?pickelhaube wrote:Everybody is missing the point.
The kits will be up to the builder as to how you are going to join your model. You guys can screw them together or glue them.
This is for the guys who are getting the full build.
Either they will be glued together permanently so you have no access OR joined with screws so you do.
That is the question permanent or screwed together.
*IF* I get that right, then the question's still open, because there will be a difference in how you do things, right Pickel? In which case the difference will be that if the complete planes are glued together, they'll look slightly slicker than if they're glued -- but they'll be permanently glued together.

I am scheduled for one of your full builds. Would prefer screws, just in case I need to have access.
Thanks!,

While i'm going for the kit version, I can see how the screw together version would be better for folks here. I guess if anyone chooses, they can always glue the parts together at a later time if they want it permanently fixed.

It is way too early for gear but I could not resist.
I may have the mock up gear a little long but it looks close to the vintage pic.
As far as the gear goes. I will use the Me-262 front wheel for the main wheels. You can see what I will use for the nose wheel. I will use the main 262 wheel hub for the front wheel hub on the Horten.
Does any of that make any sense?
Also in the vintage pic it looks like the front tire is flattened out from the weight of the aircraft. It looks like that may have to be done to get a more realistic stance.
We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

I know, I just got my Top Flite 1/8 scale Gold Edition P-47 ARF in the mail today. I was saving up for a motor, but I don't know what I am going to do after seeing the progress of this build.flyboy_fx wrote:Gosh dang it, we're in the same boat.... Well I tell you . R/C was one of my hobbies before getting into 1/18 scale.
It is true there are 2 kinds of r/c planes those that have crashed and those that will.
My last project was about a 1/6 scale Stuka that had a Zenoa 38 gas engine. It made the coolest lawn dart that you ever wanted to see.
Static is the way to go a lot less heart aches.

AMEN, brother! I followed the same path and, lord knows, there was much heartache as I created expensive holes in the ground back in my R/C days ...pickelhaube wrote:Well I tell you . R/C was one of my hobbies before getting into 1/18 scale.

Meanwhile, PLEASE keep up the development pics on the Horten. What an inspiration it is to me as I struggle along on my own 1/18 obsession!

It looks like I am moving in the wrong direction. Today more de-contsruction rather than contsruction.

Wow Pickel, thats a lot work you've put into the wheel wells.
These step by step pics really show how labor intensive one of your custom projects can be. Great job!

I have been working on the landing gear bay for over 2 days now . I should have it done by tomorrow.
A lot of time was wasted scratching my head as to how I was going to tackel the wheel doors . How would they work , do I make 2 sets open or closed ? All kinds of brain spinning things. ( I guess that is why I am slow at this stuff )
So I am going to make 1 set of doors for the main landing gear. The main strut covers will hinge off of the main section. The wheel covers will clip onto the main struts and the center covers will be hinged and connect to the center section wheel bay area.
Pretty simple now that I look back at it but perplexing at the time I was working on it.
Hopefully I will get pics up on Tues. Then the nose gear next and after that the cockpit.
