Keep the boxes or toss them?
This probably has been covered here before hundreds of times, but...being somewhat new at collecting XD and bbi and Dragon, etc...do you keep the empty boxes and packages that the figures came in once you take them out? Or do you just throw the packages away. I guess for true collectors who buy and then sell 'em off on Ebay-they don't even TAKE 'em out of the package! But I buy this stuff cause I like it! I like to set up dioramas! (well, someday I will)...but I'm torn on whether to throw the packages out! I could put the empty packages in a tote and stick 'em up in the attic-maybe for the wife to repackage and sell once I'm gone...(and if I can't take it all with me
)...I just don't know what to do!

I kept the the airplane boxes for a long time purely for storage reasons until I have a place to hang them, but eventually my collection just too grew too big and I had to toss them. I found some nice plastic storage bins that I keep them in now; they're small enough to fit under my bed and I can get about 8 planes in each one if I disassemble them. They also work for helicopters and smaller armor as well as figures.
I'd say about half my collection now is in storage bins and half is still in boxes.

I definately keep the boxes. If the time comes to sell them, it makes quite a difference. I do have a bunch of boxes floating around, but I have sold a lot of stuff on E-Bay and it adds to the value of the vehicle....

Having collected XD (and 32x) from the beginning, I keep the boxes for the planes, tanks, and smaller vehicles as these are likely to have the most value and sales potential. As for the figures, I did at first save the packages, but then realized that by opening those blister packs, you pretty much had to destroy the packaging. So now I just open them and recycle the packaging. I do save a card back from each series of figures, however, as sometimes it fun to see how the 21c products change over time...
In my philosophy - which isn't quite that of the diehard collector - the 21c and BBI figures, planes, and vehicles are just way too much fun to leave in the box!

Meskary, you take your boxes seriously! I think you forgot the comma! "when I punch out, my wife...."Meskary wrote: when I punch out my wife
I keep the boxes for the planes and vehicles, and buy at least one extra figure to leave MIP and open all the others and discard the packages. That way I have one with the card back to refer to later on for which parts were packaged together!

I keep all the boxes for planes and tanks. The figures still sell for a good price even without the packaging. (21C S1 German and US figures for example.) As long as you keep all of the small pieces that go with them. Most lots I've seen for sale are loose any way.

I keep all my boxes, regardless. I flatten them back out, like they are before the production line starts loading them up. I put them in plastic storage bins and put the holders and other stuff in another separate bin.

Thats a good idea on the boxes - it would save the approximate 130 (or more) cubic feet of space that my intact boxes take up in my attic.MG-42 wrote:I keep all my boxes, regardless. MG-42,
What side of Cincy are you on??
I am in Northern Kentucky (Elsmere-Florence area).
I find most of my items come in lots or unboxed. Which is cool with me.
I use to collect everything Star Trek - MIB. It is all stored up in the attic at the moment in the wonderous plastic tubs wanting for either:
-Ebay market to to sky high on Trek stuff again
-My son or daughter to be old enough to take it over
- or that punch the wife thing...
With XD, I am getting into the display and play mode more than MIB and hoard mode. Which I think is better.

Keep boxes or...
I buy my airplanes because I want to keep them, look at them, touch them, compare them, research their histories, etc.
To me, it doesn't make any sense to keep the boxes, so I just throw them away. I do however cut a small piece of the box's picture or some other significant reference material and save it, but that's just it.
I guess my philosophy is: If it was goood enough to buy, it's good enough to keep!
