whats the most sought after 21C 1/32 plane???

Post by AMERICAN_GRENADIER » Thu Mar 03, 2011 7:46 am

since the news that allgo is trying to rise from the ashes i wanted to see what the forum thought the most sought after 21C plane was
we get more requests for the Big Beautiful Doll than any other plane and have no trouble finding takers when one is traded in. second is the Shangri La which may nolonger be the case when the allgo reissue arrives

There's a few up at the top these days, but I would say at the moment both of the AVG Flying Tiger P-40B/C's seem to command a higher price lately. That I think has more to do with the paint scheme than the plane.

Sure wish we could have gotten the Taylor and Welch Pearl Harbor duo in 1:32. Either would have made a good Dogfight set with the PH Zero and the other or both in a singular box.

Well,
I sold a "Yellow 11" fw190A-8 a while back for $268 but that came down to the guy really wanted it and got into a bidding war. The Galland Bf109E-4 is probably the rarest, even though it is the crappy old mold.
Right now, I would say ShangriLa is probably the most sought after that consistently demands a high price at sale.

I wouldn't know why BBD is such in demand given it is again the crappy old mold, but I guess if you have to have that scheme.. :|

Well, see, here's the funny thing... Most sought after isn't always the same as most in demand. Many, heck, most of the demand is met fairly easily. It's only when someone wants something a bit out of the norm that that they have to go seeking it, and thus making it a "sought after" item.

For example, I had to do quite a bit of searching (and then quite a bit of paying) to aquire my 1:32 Sky Captain P-40. It was certainly a "sought after" item, at least for me and those I had to outbid, though I would hardly say that it was ever an in demand item, as the masses certainly did not want it.

Any of the old tooling Mustang D's seem to be popular maybe because they don't come up that often, and even though it's the crappy mold people still want the schemes they don't have. I will have to agree the "Big Beautiful Doll" is the best scheme for the P-51D though. Imagine that on the new tooling would be beyond awesome.

The "Devil Dogs" Corsair commands a higher price lately than it's brother the "Big Hog" and that one too is quite popular.

I have to agree that the "Galland" is quite rare, and the highest priced one of the BF-109E's.

There is one on EBay right now, I think they have been going around 50-60.

"Eileen" the P-47D is the most sought after of the Thunderbolts.

DAUNTLESS:

What would a new-in-box "Eileen" sell for these days?

All the planes have taken a dip in price lately because the season for selling is not what it is during the holidays.

Still, usually "Eileen" will go higher than the rest. There's one up for auction right now. Same seller as the "Galland" hworth mentioned earlier I do believe. I have both so no one has to worry about me competing for it. We'll see where it goes these days.

Unlike Christmas it's a relatively good time for buyers.

Due to a shipping mix up by a seller on Ebay, I got a BBD for free.

Placed an order for 5 21C 1/32 models, and I was short two P-51's, with BBD put in the package by mistake. The other two P-51's are being sent to me, and due to shipping and as a sign of good faith, the seller said just keep BBD.

A nice gesture. But my god!, the rivets on this are huge.

I have the 1/18 version, the Corgi 1/32 version, and the GMP 1/35 version already. This 21C model is decent, but these are the biggest rivets I have ever seen on a model.

Glad that 21C got this figured out on their future releases.

Concerning the rivets, they don't call it "BIG Beautiful Doll" for nothing.

(Actually BBD was designed by FOV and 21st just sold it)

I thought FoV rivets were horrible. And they are.

This is a new level of "braille aircraft"

The worst I have ever seen.

This really is one of the worst models I have.
