Toy Fair Disappointed 1:18 But At Least There Is....

Post by Jesse James » Fri Feb 18, 2011 1:12 am

...something to look forward to. ;) Image

Visit my site, www.JediDefender.com, to see more details and stuff. This put a big smile on my face this evening and made me pretty happy to know 1:18 has some life left in it yet.

The rumor I'm hearing for the next wave would floor you. As always, thinks change with prototypes and product line-ups so nothing is official till you have it in your hands or see it in your stores.

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!

interesting....instead of all wearing sunglasses they're all going to have rolled up sleeves this time, are they? And those are some big honkin' gas mask canisters. But it's something.

So what rumours are you hearing? No need to keep it secret.

Jesse
As a hobby site owner myself I must say I was impressed by what you have done with your site, well done! Same goes for getting that 'scoop', such things aren't easy to get hold of first.

Well thats some interesting news. The figures look good......I was never a fan of the hasbro bobble head (head on a post) style sculpts but what the hell, they're 1:18th and German. 8) I noticed the MG-34/42 ammo can, that would be welcomed........some of the FOV Germans had what looked like U.S. 50 cal ammo cans, not a big thing to most but it just bothered me.
As stated these are proto's and things can change, very happy to see some new figures in Our Scale.
Thanks for the Intel Jesse!

There's always reason to hold onto rumors Aferg, trust me. Let's just say the rumor for the next wave hasn't been done yet.

I loved these proto's myself... The double-hinged knees are an improvement to me, GI Joe/Super Hero style articulation obviously. I liked that they were attempting to do the typical looking Euro hairstyles for the period. The rolled sleeves I thought were great since so much footage of Germans from warmer time-frames of the war or fronts had them with sleeves up and we've really not seen that on anything but the DAK troopers.

Also the webbing comes off... THAT is cool unto itself. And the MP40 may very well fold at both the but-end and the mount to the gun itself. I'm pretty impressed so far. I'm glad mostly that they're doing removable helmets though, since the modern US soldiers didn't have those. There are another three in the wave too, but no photo. We'll see what's coming as time rolls along but I thought this would brighten the days of the Military collectors since no company seems dedicated to these at all now except the Our War line. I'm really excited though myself.

BTW no vehicles planned...... yet. They're taking a figure-first mode of thinking, and I applaud them for that. Vehicles come with time, cost, and great risk.

By the way I should note that "my site" isn't "my site". :) I just work there. But it's "my site" in that I do a lot of the news for it so I just call it that to ease confusion. The original owner was my buddy Chris, he and the original staffers (myself sort of included in that) built it up. He sold it to my buddy Paul who is current owner. We generally don't do 1:18 Military news, just mostly Hasbro stuff and obviously Star Wars, but I like to slip in other lines I enjoy when I can and something new and exciting is out there like these figures.

removable gear and belts are a big plus for sure. And it is nice to see some new company getting into wwii, i wonder if this is the rumour badcat heard?

So the next wave has never been done before, so possibley british, since we have all kinds of germans, us troops, japanese, and russians (unless you weren't counting those :) ), unless of course they're winter russians. Anyway, something to look forward to and if they sell well, maybe they'll get into vehicles as well.

Wow, those look interesting. Be great if they come out this year. Can always use more Germans.

Not that I'm saying they're Russians, but no I do not count Russians as done on my personal list, just for clarity's sake. Hasbro's are neat but not sufficient to what I personally want... Winter, Spring, or other, haha.

I also don't count US Navy Personnel, Ground Crews from any nationality, Italians, Brits of any kind (BBI's one Para does not count, as cool as the Red Devil is... I consider him more a novelty). I also don't consider a lot of special forces type characters done, or very specific designs on US or German characters, like N. Africa Germans in shorts, or GI's without coats on... Basically I left it pretty vague.

I'll say it's not paratroopers of any kind which are done, but I know a lot of people are so hard-up for German ones that it's like the first ones never existed, haha. I think people will be pleased, just saying that without seeing any pictures of course.

I love the Germans. To me they're a great effort and the headsculpts don't look terribly different than a lot of 21st's efforts. I think they're going with a "chiseled" European look. I personally loved the rolled up sleeves too by the way... We've never gotten that with Germans, so these will go great for Normandy, or Spring Offensives, or Italy, etc. I think that's being overlooked. Plus it looked like some have them rolled high, others lower... Variety's the spice of life with army builders, and in a time when Hasbro's cutting back on head variants for troopers, I like that detail.

I'm curious to see the other 3 figures now.

BTW Thank you for all complements on the site. I should've said that before so I apologize. I was in a rush and thought I had. But I really do appreciate that. Doing anything for free, more or less, is difficult. Between a gf with 3 kids, all involved in various big things from football to college, and my parent's and pets, and then just life in general, it's definitely not easy putting all the time into a site that you need to. Plus money put into traveling for events like Toy Fair (I'm thankful that I'm a trainride there that's tolerable), and buying the toys so you can have an informed opinion... Well it's just not an easy thing to keep up with. :) It's hell not having net access at work too, haha.

These figures represented life in 1:18 military to me though... WW2 in particular which is my thing. For me, this was the silver lining to the dark cloud that was Toy Fair. And to the best of my knowledge, this had nothing to do with BCA's rumor posted before TF.

Great to see something new on the 1:18 front, especially with joe-styled articulation.

Are these OurWar figures by Tieka? Glad to seem them back at it after being silent since they're first wave!
