Re: Indiana Jones troop car
I thought it was to be a Hoersch (spelling?) 4WD or something like that? I can't recall the exact name but one was in a book I have but dont' have with me at the moment. Something like this?

Here's the toy
Someone on here did some great customs with them painted up for Normandy... Really great decoes and camo on them. I thought someone did one with a working canvas top you could put down/up too.
I've got one or two around here I should probably sell at this point since I bought too many to customize.

That seems pretty clear. Not a bad replica either... I swear someone did an awesome repaint of this but I can't find it now. I think he made and sold stuff on Ebay then.

Re: Indiana Jones troop car
The car in the movie is supposed to be a Mercedes-Benz G5 Geländewagen.
The vehicle used for the movie was a ground up copy made especially for the movie in England. The car that goes over the cliff, of course, was only a small model.
I love replica vehicles used in movies, sometimes they are so impressive, they are just great by themselves, like the M-37's mocked up to be desert 1 1/2 Chevy's in "Play Dirty" and all the German tanks in SPR.... T-34's, T-55's being Tigers, and Brit APC's cut up to be Stugs etc.
Many years have passed since a German cross was painted on a M-41 or M-47 and then calling it a Tiger!!!!!

Re: Indiana Jones troop car
I thought it did a lot of general purpose work... Like a precursor to Kubels, but more gas-hoggy... Looks like it could tow a bit, haul quite a few folks. I read something somewhere though that an MG mount on the back isn't likely to have been on real ones.

Re: Indiana Jones troop car
btw i havent heard of the movie Play Dirty. Is it good? Worth buying the DVD? I like LRDG stuff but if it's a hokey movie, with m3 halftracks as german halftracks (like Rat Patrol) then i dont think i'd like it.

Aferg:
You will like "Play Dirty", even though it does have a few White halftracks used as German, but that is in only a few scenes and it fits as the Germans captured and used some supplies of American halftracks after the Kaserine Pass.
Main plot is Michael Caine as a Brit rear echelon petroleum engineer being forced to accompany a LRDG unit going on a secret mission. Lots of Brit vehicles and lots of dirty tricks and action. The scenes of the LDRG unit winching trucks a canyon wall are great.
Oh, as to this thread, the G5 was used as a troop carrier, like a Jeep until replaced by a Kubelwagon. 19,000 G5 type vehicles were used until the Kubel became available.
