water cooled .30 cal browning machine gun in 1/18

Post by aferguson » Thu Jan 20, 2011 6:34 am

does anyone know of a source for a water cooled .30 cal browning machine gun in 1/18? GI Joe or Marauder perhaps? I can't find anything. I'm trying to do an early war Philippines dio.

I have one that I got in a lot of items a long while back. It looks like someone made it.
I can post some pics for you to see.
I know it's not to 1/18 scale (little big), but with some clever landscape/sandbags, it could work.

You can just add a big dowel/tube over the 21st 30 cal barrel.

To add variety to my 1:18 M3A1 halftrack APC I converted one of the air-cooled guns to an M1917A1. As mentioned, I looked at my considerable supply of plastic parts and used a piece of styrene tube for the water jacket. I added a bit of small metal tubing for the barrel that protrudes from the front of he jacket. You can add the fittings for the water lines also. Fortunately the 21C M1919A4 on the halftrack has a large rear sight like the water-cooled gun and the mount supplied looks close to the mount/carriage that is seen under the M1917A1. Actually a straight forward conversion. Just keep everything in alignment. Remember that the barrel still comes out of the gun's receiver in the same place - the water jacket is offset to the top so the barrel protrudes near the bottom of the water jacket. Plenty of photos of these guns around to guide you.

thanks for the input......i knew i could make one fairly easily but i was hoping there might be one readilly available to buy. Just laziness and not wanting to use up my limited supply of .30 cals. I'm surprised Marauder hasn't made one.
