Guys,
I've been away for a while so excuse me if I raise a topic that's been discussed before.
What are the general opinions of the 2005 version of the 1:16 King Tiger? Did the manufacturer address some of the problems that we saw with the first version of the Tiger II? Thanks a bunch!

You mean to too-high suspension, brittle parts, bad casting, toy-like details, etc? Nope. It seem that the King Tiger will only be a repaint, with additional figures.
The suspension can be fixed, you have to take one link out of each track and push the tank down to what level you want it to sit at.
Bad casting, I hear this all the time but don’t know what people are referring too....the tracks and turret are the only parts cast. They look pretty good to me.
Brittle parts, nothing has broken on mine except for a few tow cable clips and that’s because the cable is too thick to go through the clips opening.
Toy like details, 21st armor is more toy like, the 1/16 tiger 2 ain't no tamyia kit but its a few steps ahead of 21st armor pieces.
Only a repaint, yes, I hope its the last for this model, on to the next!

So all those holes on the die-cast parts are what, .50 caliber hits? I don't know if it's FOV's poor attempt at texturing, or some really bad casting job, but at that price, you would expect a better quality product, not something like an amateur caster would make...air bubbles galore.
And the fact that they decided to mold mud on the tank. Even archive photos of King Tigers during the BOB didn't have that much mud on them (except on the wheels), In fact, they are relatively mud free. Take a look at the book Tigers in Combat II. Lots of photos of Ardennes King Tigers, and most, if not all of them are mud free...even the 008, is pretty clean. Maybe a bit dusty, but no globs of mud like in the FOV tank.
But you're right, this is no Tamiya kit, but at the price they are selling these for, you might as well buy a Tamiya kit. Even if you buy all the aftermarket parts for the Tamiya kit (which will make uber-realistic), it's still a bit cheaper.
