Flaw in WTM 1/144 King Tigers and Tiger I's?

Post by Philip » Thu Sep 15, 2005 8:56 pm

I just received some of my WTM 1/144 tanks. I got King Tigers, Porshe turret, Tiger I's, and 2 Sherman Fireflys. They are similar in detail to the Dragon 1/144 tanks. The other M4 Shermans should arrive at the end of the month. The only thing I noticed is that none of the King Tigers, or Tigers have a machine gun "barrel" sticking out of the ball turret. The turret is there, but no barrel protruding. The Can.do tanks do have this. I don't know if this is a flaw or what, so, although nice, the Takara tanks are somewhat lacking in comparison to the Dragon tanks. Furthermore, the Dragon tanks are $1.50 - $3.00 cheaper, and come with the nice plastic display case. So, I will only purchase Takara Allied tanks until Dragon produces some. Anyway, does anyone have these, and have you had the same problem?

Yes. All WTM tanks (Allies and German) are like that. Even the soon to release WTM 08 series of tanks also.

Yep, I noticed that too. I also noticed that the tiger 1's are missing a road wheel in the front on either side. a couple of the tanks I got came with little road wheels meant to fit in these spaces, I put them on on the ones I like the most. Most of them didn't come with them though. I only noticed it when I opened one from WTM 07 set and it had the little road wheels to put on. I glued them in place as they were really prone to fall off. I don't understand why they did that as opposed to just molding it on to begin with. Also, I have taken black fishing line and put a small piece sticking out of the turret. It looks like a machine gun if you get the right thickness. I heat up a pin and melt a little hole where I want it to stick out from, superglue the line in place, then trim to the right length. I also do this with thinner line for antennas. They look good. I think it adds a little more realism but I might just be overly anal. :P
