FOV LAV

Post by popeye357 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 7:45 am

I just got this in the mail and comparing it with the BBi LAV, I think it's a great addition. I wonder why this one was so rare? Or is it that they came and went while I was on deployment. I saw oneon ebay for like 65 clams but got this one for 18 bucks from a friend on hisstank. The 25mm is kinda thick and so is the coax, I don't use the hatch in the back so I don't miss it not opening and there is an extra hatch on top that opens. Very good scale to the BBi and it sports weld lines that the BBi doesn't. All in all a great vehicle for the motorpool.

Glad you like the vehicle. These were at TRU for a while in late 2009 and 2010. They are all but gone now. The LAVs have not gone to the small retailers or other mass retail stores like Target, hence their rarity.

I dickered several times over whether to get one of the FOV LAVs or not. The detail on the 1:18 version is inferior to the wonderful 1:32 scale FOV LAV and of course the 1:18 BBI version. The model obviously has some positive points: the cammo paint scheme, opening turret hatches, and some finer details like weld lines, etc. However, other aspects of it struck me as very toyish lke the jerry cans on the turret and the thick barrel. The vehicle really should have had the rear compartment included as well (the FOV 1:18 M2 Bradley has one after all!)

I have the BBI LAV and have been very happy with it, so I've never felt a pressing need to get the FOV version... Still, glad it displays well and I think that with some custom work, it could be made into a really fantastic model :)

Yeah, I got mine at TRU as an "Assault Force" Winter 2009/2010 for something between $10 and $20 ... can't remember what it went down too.

I totally agree that it would have been sweat if we could have stuffed some figures in the back. A few weeks ago when my nephews were out back playing with my 1:18 PTE vehicles that was what they seemed to enjoy most ... stuff a bunch of figures in the back of a vehicle and then go for a drive.
