Hello gents,

I have gained interest into buying a BBI corsair. I like the liveries....pretty cool looking not to mention the price is excellent.

Now i keep hearing about wing folding and all that....is the mechanism on the BBI one easy to work with? I don't plan to mod it, I was just wondering in case I want to display it in the parked position with wings up.

I tried sifting through the thread to find more info but honestly I am a noob with 1/18 warbirds and most of the thread was about 21st vs BBI. That and I have never handled a 1/18 corsair yet...

Are the wings relatively easy to fold? Is there anything I should look out for?
Shin's wishlist for 1/18 and 1/32 with retractable landing gear and more:

F-14 Tomcat, F-8 Crusader, A-4 Skyhawk, F-105 Thunderchief, A-6 Intruder, F-15C, F-15E Strike Eagle

Well, if you've ever seen the 21st Corsair, it's really hard to snap the wings into the unfolded flight position. Generally you have to push really hard at the fear of breaking something before they will snap into the grooves. That has not changed with the BBI corsair. But... how the wing folds has changed. In the 21st version you had to loosen a screw in order to not snap the folding mechanisim because of how tight they were. With the BBI Corsair, the mechanisim has improved to where it is a slide and fold system... that is much easier and you don't fear snapping something.

Finally found the Corsair at Lakeline TRU. They only had one on the shelf and now they have none.

Amazon

Post by digger » Mon Aug 29, 2005 5:05 am

I have to say that it is nice to have amazon selling the bbi line - while the figures are always marked up amazon has THE BEST online prices for the AC. The $40 price point by both companies is very impressive, but no mark up at amazon for bbi planes makes it a no-brainer.

I'm convinced the small retailers love lines like,
My Ebay guess is $125 each for BBI Corsairs come August 15th. (Along with a few members of this board kicking themselves for not acting).
So that people start to get scared and then pre-order, then the snow ball grows, and more people pre-order, then the pre-order sells out and the frenzy hits  :o Meanwhile the thing is readily available for 40 beans....
We have to be more zen-like in the face of new releases :P ...but seriously, can we expect a Dauntless soon to compliment the Zero and Corsair or am I getting ahead of myself :? ?

i just wish instead of redoing the P-51D 21st would do a P-51B
and BBI an F4U-4 instead another F4U-1. if BBI is planing a P-40 lets make it an E or N

A B-,odel P-51 would be nice. I would love to see one done up like DOn Gentile's.

Just to be curious. Why isn't anyone concerned about the paint error of the fuselage insignia on the bbi Corsair? The gray of the fuselage has been masked off for the national emblem but they missed and have it too far forward.

Corsair

Funny there are QC issues with the Corsair and it was done in the same factory as 21st's....I guess what goes around comes around.

I'm Back!!!

Post by Teamski » Wed Sep 14, 2005 6:53 pm

I am back from TDY into the Desert fellas!!! I opened up my bbi Corsair and posted comparison pictures of it and a 21st Corsair. Check them out on my webshots account......

I am really impressed with the plane even with it's numerous faults. I think it is one of the best yet. HOWEVER, there are a couple thinks that drive me nuts. #1 on the list are the flaps. I really enoy having to pick up several of them off the floor as they fall off in the extended position. You either have them retracted or flopping around at a 90 degree angle. Very irritating. I don't really mind the gear and the wing folding mechanism is good. No, Britt, I didn't cut myself open..... :) The cockpit is awesome! I love the gunsite. The engine detail didn't look any better to me than the 21st version. The prop was nice and tight in fit, so no flopping around there. The mispaint on the fuselage for the national insignia was off as expected, but it doesn't detract from the looks of it. The detailing is excellent. I really like the oil cooler flap actuator and of course the floor window. This plane is a winner all the way around IMHO.....

Thanks guys! Now if I can only get the 104 and the 109 I was promised, hehehehehehehehe....

The funny thing is that I found a knight's lance IN the Corsair box I opened up. Now what are the odds of something like that happening?? Obviously they do the knight figures in the same factory!!

I keep looking at this set and almost getting it. Thing is all I *really* want or have room for is that amazing pilot figure it comes with.

Sorry if this is old news, but I find it interesting that...

Amazon is selling the Corsair:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... s=toys&no=*

And the P-51:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 8&v=glance

I think it's a bit strange particularly for the Corsair since it was just released fairly recently. Need to keep an eye on Amazon now for other BBI planes as they are released.

Found the F4U

Post by jhogan » Fri Sep 30, 2005 1:21 pm

Found the Corsair at the local TRU today. This thing is really sweet. Although I have a 21C Kepfort hanging in the air space in my room, I'm getting full. The BBi Corsair will set on a book shelve with wings folded giving a completely different look from the 21C Corsair. I can't wait for the BBi Zero. I'm sure it will just as nice as the BBi P-51 and Corsair. If BBi did a marketing study, I'm sure they would offer the F6F Hellcat next.
