F8F Bearcat Anyone?

Post by rawjinks » Thu Sep 08, 2005 10:04 am

I was wondering if I was the only one that would like to see a Bearcat as a 1:18, or are there others like myself that think it is an awesome plane. The last prop driven combat plane of the era.

Hell yea, id love a F8,
My uncle flew Fm-2p's,F6F-5p's and F8F-1p's.

I'd like to see any "cat" from the Ironworks.

End of a era,
one word Skyraider!
WWII to 'Nam with a B-17's payload.
Impressive. 8)

While I'd love to see a 1/18 F8F, it would be much better and more feasible to see a Hellcat and Wildcat first. Sticking with WWII PAC stuff, it'd probably still be better and more likely to see a Dauntless and Helldiver first before getting into the more esoteric, though definitely cool, subjects like the Tigercat and Bearcat.

Welcome to the board rawjinks! Happy to have you here!! :D

The Bearcat is surely the pedigree Naval fighter, but it had no impact on anything, really. Being the last of the line, it was superceded by jets soon after the war. It's a great plane, but I'd definately want a plane that had impact. The Hellcat, Wildcat, Typoon, Dauntless, Mig-3, KI-61, KI-84, Hurricane, Stumovik, DR I, Camel, P-39 and others would be a better choice IMHO.

While the Bearcat is definately bad to the bone, I need to see a Hellcat first. Impact or not, if it's cool, make it 21st! 8)

I'd hate to be the one to have to figure out the retracts on the F4F.

I absolutely love the Wildcat, but I agree that the landing gear will be a quite a puzzle to make work. As I recall, the Bearcat itself had a wierd double-joint thing happening in the landing gear to accomodate the huge prop disc.

But 21C is making a game effort at the wing-fold mechanism of the Avenger (which is the same as the Hellcat ). (...and I recall that the Hellcat landing gear is the same turn-and-retract mechanism as the P-40 and the Corsair, which 21st has also mastered  )
