Getting Tomcat Seats Out

Post by Bruzilla » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:56 am

I know someone's pulled the seats out of their Tomcat, and I was wondering if someone could tell me how it's done. Can they just be pulled out, or is there a connector I have to work around?

Bruzilla,

I have disassembled 2 of these monsters and the seats are not easy to remove. For some reason the Chinese really glued this thing together way too much… but you can get them out.

Use a wide blade flat head screwdriver starting from the back of the seat. It is impossible to get them out without some damage to the back of the seat but it won't show after you put them back in. Each seat is attached with two retangular posts or legs and they are pretty robust so you will have to insert the blade of the driver and turn it to pry each side out.

Got mine out without seriously breaking anything. Go slow and may the force be with you.

Mike

Thanks for the info. I especially like the ideas for the harnesses and cushions. I'm going to have crew figures attached to my seats (which is why I want to pull the seats), so I'm not too concerned about cushions, but harnesses are a concern.

I never thought I would be "blessed" by having a son who plays guitar, but old guitar strings make ideal hoses for in this scale. I can use base strings for oxygen hoses, and guitar strings for six different sizes of other hoses. I'm not doing much with the landing gear bays as the gear will always be up, but I almost want to do it anyway as those strings would look so good in there.
