Custom 1/18 P-39 in progress

Post by B-29 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 5:14 pm

Here's some pics of the 1/18 P-39 I've been working on. The tail is mostly finished and the front just needs landing gear and panel lines. The next step will be the cockpit area and canopy frames. If anybody has P-40 wings and rear stabelizers, let me know, I will be needing them soon. Here's some pics:

Looks really nice. I put my P-39 on the back burner for now, but I'm sure I'll get around to it some day  . You'll have to give us some details of the build. This is one of my favorite warbirds and I will definitely be watching this thread.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll post pics as the build progresses. I've been doing this based off of a 1/72 model I have ( I need a high powered magnifier just to see the puny thing..). Hopefully I will start the canopy frames this weekend, or this week depending on my homework.

Well, its been a while since I've updated this, and things went far slower than planned, as is so common with customs. Its close to finished now, but still needs the cockpit bulkhead, guns, front gear doors, air intake, a nose weight, and some minor touch-ups:

Depending on when I finish it, and if there's any interest, I may consider releasing it as a kit. Input would be greatly appreciated.

Looks awesome. I'm glad to see you are completing your P-39. Was it scratch built from the floor up or did you us an existing plane for a base?

I used a P-40 as a base. However the only thing that stayed the same was the stabalizers and rudder.
