Question about 1:18 Humvee Compatibility

Post by Psyclone » Fri Jun 04, 2010 12:20 pm

Hello, this will be my first post on this forum. I was brought here while looking for some humvee reference pictures using Google and liked it so much I decided to stay. I have a question for those of you familiar with all the 1:18 humvees out there (21st, Hasbro, Maisto, BBI, etc...). I am currently customizing a humvee and decided on the Hasbro Night Ops because I like the overall design and engine access. Since I am new to military customizing I'm not that familiar with all of the details of the various companies that make 1:18 humvees. What I would like to do, if it is possible, is exchange the undercarriage or at least just the axles for ones that are more detailed. I see that 21st and BBI, along with Maisto and other diecast 1:18 humvees, are more accurate looking than the hasbro pin and wheel design. So, does anyone know if any of the other brands will fit with the Hasbro humvee? Has anyone used parts from a more detailed humvee to spice up a Hasbro toy? Thanks in advance.

Scott

Hi and welcome, some nice customs you've got there 8)

This reminds me I've gotta open up my night ops humvee from its box someday soon and give some of my ground pounders a rest from sore legs and a ride in style

From what I've seen from stock pictures its pretty fierce as it is so I can only imagine how it'd look with some work done on it

Do post some pictures or a link when you have it pimped up :D

Oh maybe a preview on the 1/18 database might help

I would't switch parts of the undercarrage. Just cut the body off of one and put it on the chassy of another.

I have the BBI and a few 21st and the 21st undercarrage has as much detail as the original.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

Thanks for all the replies so far.

@Pickelhaube: That would definitely be the way to go as long as they fit. That's my main concern. I've read different reviews and some say that BBI humvee is larger than Hasbros by a little. Not sure about the 21st or the diecast versions like Maisto. That's why I'm curious if anyone has switched out either the bbi, maisto or 21st with the hasbro. I have a limited supply of $ to spend on this project and I don't want to buy one version and find out I should have bought another because of size difference.

Edit: BTW, can someone post some images or links to images of the BBI and 21st undercarriage? I can't seem to find any through Google.

I will. Thanks for the link to the archive, I hadn't seen that before.

Tell you what, Ill take some pictures of them side by side.

HOWEVER...a 21c under carrage is just going to be too much work IMO...its more fragile and is made up of a TON of parts. 21c humvees are more like models than toys.
The BBI undercarage's problem I think is that the seats and such are a part of it, but I could be wrong.
Its really a good idea, im just not sure how it would be executed.

Thanks, I appreciate the photos. I was able to pick up a diecast humvee online pretty cheap recently that I will be using for parts (tires, engine, maybe undercarriage, etc...). I'll see how that fits, if at all, when it arrives. Still, I'd like to see the bbi and 21st versions.
