useful japanese pill box?

Post by aferguson » Fri May 28, 2010 1:15 pm

i stumbled on this:

http://classictoysoldiers.com/cgi-bin/c ... ent=003035

by the dimensions it seems overly large for 1/32 and i thought i might be useful for 1/18, imagining that it is dug into the ground and most of the soldiers inside would be below ground level.

Opinions? Anyone know where to get it cheaper as the price seems pretty stiff to me.

I have no idea how accurate it is, as i know nothing about japanese pill boxes.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Personally, I think it would be a bit on the small side for 1/18, I'm just basing this opinion on comparison to other "bunker type" pieces I have in 32X/54mm. The price doesn't seem too severe, at least not compared to BAR for example, and it looks pretty nice to me, but the palm fronds make it look sorta like an aquarium piece, but you could always paint over them I suppose.

I have it, def not 1/18 maybe a little over-sized for 1/32 but works fine. Classic Toy Soldiers is usually pricey. Try Toy Soldiers of San Diego - -they may be a little better priced.

Hey AFERG!!! From what I can tell from the pic---it looks pretty accurate to me!!!These kinds of pill-boxes were pretty standard---when the Japanese had the concrete to make them!!!Most of the time they would have been covered up with the natural surrounding of the island untill the Navy shelled the area leaveing only the pill-box for all the see!!!For that $$$ you could buy the stuff to make 3 or 4 at 1:18 scale!!! Just a fom board, tape, and some sheetrock mud!!! Hope this helps!!!---RED---

Just another opinion on that bunker... You should make yourself one.. as Jap bunkers go, that one seems alittle FARBI... go to Ebay toys/and type in WWII MG German bunker.. the 1:18 scale one is all out of hardfoam.. easy to make...

If you make em' out of styrofoam just be sure you use acrylic or some other type of "styro friendly" paint to finish it, as enamels will melt the stuff.... :(
