18th AC familiarity breeds...familiarity??

Post by mikeg » Thu May 27, 2010 6:23 pm

Well, it certainly doesn't breed contempt. Remember the days when you would.......choose one or more....
A- stop and look at your AC displays
B- same as above but picking them up
C- rearrange constantly, different
shelving
D- dust your AC with the nearest paint
brush occasionally.
E- wonder where you will put the
new one? until the next one.

........ the thrill is gone, hobbies come and hobbies go; I'll keep it all, for display purposes- to fill the wall
spaces, of course. I just don't have that hope'n'changey, tingle up my leg feeling any more when I see my stuff.

Collections get to large and you can't appreciate them anymore. Try downsizing and keep the pieces you loved the most. You'll gain a whole new appreciation for them.

I still get it

However, there is a reason why. I limit my display space so that I can only have out so much at once. That, combined with having multiple repaints of some aircraft/tanks, causes me to switch out parts of my collection every now and then. That sort of keeps things fun, particularly when I pull out something I have not had on display in a while. (There was a time about six years ago where I had all my 11 XD planes out at once in a giant formation, but I've since streamlined things and now have about 3x as many planes...)

Other times, my "limited display" strategy can get a little agonizing. Case in point was when I started the week with my BBI F-18 hanging in one part of my ceiling, then switched it out with the BBI F-16 the next day, and now the space is occupied by a 21c F-104. Conversely, I've not taken my "California Cutie" P-38, "Old Crow" P-51, "Rall" Bf-109G, "Bunker Hill" Avenger, and JSI F-14 out from display for months. Guess I just like those particular planes 8)

I do the "rotate your display" too.

Keeps things fresh,and interesting.

You have models displayed that you haven't seen in a while.

I get like that sometimes but then I pick up a tank and look close at it and see all the detail, all the parts that make a real tank work and paint chips from maintenance or battle damage and it becomes new again. It's like I can't see the forest because of the trees....I gotta stop smoking the wacky tabaky!
