Update for my report, both planes at TRU were BBi, the boxes were different colors so I thought at first glance it was a different company.

Incidentally those target cheapo BBis seem to be selling well here.

I found a TON of Marines at a local WM tonight. Odd thing is I was at the WM I got my Marines at the other night and they were completely out of figures save for a handful of Green Uni Marines that seem less popular. They also had sold through the majority of the halftracks they had and were down to just 2 U.S. halftracks. (I still cry BS to those who say armor sells less than planes. This same store has the same 2 damn German planes on the shelf, but they've sold through about a dozen US and German halftracks in about a weeks time)

The WM I went to tonight had easily 8 pegs FULL of Marines (All green uni's) and I'd say 12 or more laying the shelf right below the pegged ones. A whole lotta figures.

Still no Japanese, but I'm looking. Picking up Marine riflemen here and there too... Besides his "Oh no!" look in his eyes, he's the best figure in the lot. Wish I'd gotten all the camo ones of him I saw when I saw them.

Oh yeah... And no battle of the bulge figures either. :( That's probably my biggest disappointment, as I'd REALLY be stocking up on Germans right now (all 3 variants) if I could find them. It's my favorite theater and battle to focus on, yet it's been so incredibly hard to do so. Bummer.

XD Japanese in Northern California

Post by marthins2000 » Sat Aug 27, 2005 9:33 pm

Hit the Rohnert Park and Windsor, CA Walmarts today and picked up all the Japanese ($4.97) and the latest camo Sherman COED ($22.74) along with the 1/32 FW190 and P47. The tank is nice and it is back to all plastic and I am just now breaking out the Japanese. They seem pretty cool except the riflemen only have two ammo pouches instead of three and one of the two is the rear pouch with the oiler! The helmet could have been better done, too, especially for fit. OK, just a couple of nit picks! They are well worth it!

Steve

P.S. For those who enjoy 1/6, the Kettenkrad was at both places and is very well done, far better than the original release in regards to paint work.

WM in Round Rock has COED Sherman, Halftrack (many with broken treads), Japanese Soldiers, Hanomag. They also have 1/32 playsets but have not restocked the 1/32 planes-only had a few 1/18 p-47 Eileens.

Marines have landed in Dallas

Post by nathanita » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:45 am

First to fight
...last to show up in Dallas.
Dallas (Irving) has all Marines, all Pattons, BOB figures and assorted pilots. No Japanese, yet, although I hear they're close in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. These were much anticipated as my father was in the 3rd MAW in WWII and at less than 5 bucks a head, they're a steal. This gives me hope that maybe the Avenger will eventually show up in Dallas...

Has anyone noticed that the backpack under the reserve chute (with rope attached) on the 'Paras' is molded on backwards?

Yes....and we noted this an excellent detail that bbi got right....fewer straps hanging around the better when you want to avoid malfunctions. They should be backwards.

Great! I thought I had gotten a bad group of Paras since they're shown with the straps on the front on the card backs.
On a side note, Hot Wheels is comming out with a desert camo version of the 1:18 scale Batman Returns Batmobile in November.

I popped into TRU this afternoon and found an XD "Private Keitel" Fallschrmjager hanging on a peg next to the 1:18 BBI U.S. Paratroopers! Picked him up for $2.99 and a BBI Lt. Lucas for $6.99.
Never know what you will find at TRU!

Went to the Walmart north of Kansas City last night. They has the Japanese and Marine figures, the 132nd planes, playsets, 1/48 softskin vehicles and some 1/6 weapons sets. More XD the I have seen in a long time. But still no PZIV, dodge truck BOB figures or Panthers.

Para display

Post by nathanita » Thu Sep 08, 2005 4:39 pm

This may have already come up, however, if you want to suspend your BBI paratroopers from the ceiling (alongside your planes), you can simply insert the clear plastic box that comes with the packaging inside the parachute canopy and attach a fishing line through the center. BBI could have taken their paras to the next level by packaging them in round containers that could be inserted into the canopy...

Wish I had a plastic bubble for my 1:6 GI Joe WWII paratrooper and Modern US marine paratrooper - but those chutes are huge!

are the parachutes to scale? If so the clear bubble would have to be pretty big, much larger than would be practical to package one figure in.

That's a pretty cool idea though.....there must be other sources of clear plastic bubbles you could insert inside the parachute...

I have tried to display the bbi paras with their shoots open and found that using a round tupperware bowl that is 8 1/2"wide at the mouth & 4" deep works very well. The colors I used were white or green and looked good with either. I just could not put a hole in them to hang, because the wife would have killed me. So I have be looking for cheap substitute for them with no luck yet. A 9"x5" bowl would work also but not much bigger. Does anybody have a vaccum form machine out there?

How about using cloths hanger wire?? You could bend 2 or 3 of them into a half circular shape and then criss-cross them in the middle. Tie them together with some string and insert them under the canopy. That it should look pretty good.

do you have Dollar Tree stores in Ohio?
i find bowls in there that are clear and work perfect under the parachutes
they are so thin that when under chutes they are almost invisable(plus wife said they are cheap junk and wouldn't use them anyway)

Quote from plastic spastic about BBi paras:

"The chute is probably the best 1/18 scale chute I've ever seen, although the choice of a Pacific Marines camo pattern seems odd for the canopy."

Now I would like anyone to correct me if i'm wrong but that camo pattern is accurate. I think the chutes they used on D Day ( night jumps) were all white silk and the camo chutes were used for broad day light jumps like Market Garden.

I also read that army troops had camo uniforms for the Normandy campaign with this type camo and that they were not used because they resembled SS camo.

Was amazed to find Japanese figures on the pegs at the WM in Auburn NY today. Picked up two - now I have double of almost all of them.

First figures of any type I've seen at WM in Upstate NY. Gives me hope that the S2 Marines might show up here.

No figures at the WM in Camillus.
