How many of you are going to buy a JSI S2 F-14?

I am! I think the F-14 is a fantastic model and I'll support JSI

Just a simple poll folks out of curiousity. Not that JSI listens to us or anything.

jsi can go to hell, there plane sucks there landing gear are worse. the repaint plane i was working on is in the trash, the damn landing gear just gave out and broke in three places, unfixable, wife won't let me order new gear from jack, so i used the plane for target practice! now i feel like an idiot, jsi you need to get your act together, your costing people alot of money! i had high hopes of starting a repaint service, but not if every g.. damn plane i buy has some thing that is broken or going to break! i wonder are the other planes like this?

all i can say is be very careful with the landing gear, may even want to glue them in place.

i thank god for tko211, i have two very cool tomcats coming from him one is vf-2 bounty hunters low viz, the other is vf-1 70s hi viz, will post pics when they arrive.

maybe i'll try again down the road but for now i am too fed up with jsi! i already had to throw one plane away due to bad paint, now this, i just want to cry, scream, and cry some more, then scream!

Wow, I can see your steam from the post.

Should tell your wife: the plane is salvageable if you have the new gears, that is, assuming you don't destroy it first out of frustration. The whole plane is still nice and costs $200. Should consider a display stand. One the other hand, now you can do experiments you would never dare.

The only other F-14 I may buy will be NSAWC scheme. Of course I will get Jack's landing gears first if JSI doesn't improve them. Can't afford another repainting cost.

I would love to get another F-14 model, but only if JSI changes the main landing gear.

I think every one that has a tomcat should but Jacks landing gear... I would not hold my breath on the fact that JSI will fix the problem..

You guys do know that JSI made replacement landing gear don't you ?

It is of no matter to me. I have my S-1 and have never taken it out of the shipping box.

As far as a repaint I want to see it before I buy it.

That will determine if I get the S-2 or not.

If they do a Spot Cat S-2 I WILL NOT EVEN CONSIDER IT.

Hey That F-14 Guy,

Customizing is not easy. You are going through the pitfalls of customizing. Waste is part of the deal. That is something that you can not get away from. If you can salvage something do so. Throwing it away is the last resort.

If you had filmed the shooting and smashing, you can post on youtube and show who's the boss to the brat who smashed his new iPad. 8)

Pickel - or anyone else for that matter- what do you know about JSI making replacement gear? I got a set of their "replacement" gear(from Merit after sending them an email), but it turns out they are just extra gear from Merit off of unsold S-1s that are in the warehouse. They are not redone or retooled gear just same crappy product. I'm sure they'd ultimately meet the same fate my first gear did so didn't even install them - waiting on my SkyWorks gear.

gear

Post by Coreyeagle48 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 9:24 am

Greetings:

The only issue I had with my landing gear on the two Tomcats I had was the little pin that hooks into the plane on the underside kept coming out. I actually had devised a very simple and effective fix of making the tab thicker by applying a layer of super glue. It had worked but I installed the tab and some of the glue must not have been dry because it got attached and I couldn't get it loose. So that was really my mistake. My second F-14 the pins are not loose and I have no problems whatsoever with the gear collasping or staying in place. I've also had the plane sitting on a shelf unsupported except by the gear for the better part of three months now, maybe more.

I honestly do not play with my gear much though and to be honest, I can't even tell you the last time I've retracted any of the gear on any of my 1/18 aircraft. Most of these aircraft I've paid good money for, why risk ruining them by playing with them. And that goes for any of the models I have. It's just not worth the risk.

The replacement gear would have been fine probably had that metal rod been installed in them like it should have been.

I'm in the same boat with regards to my F-14 landing gear. My plane has been sitting on the gear largely since I got it on December 17 2009 and there have been no problems. I've moved it to other locations and it has sat on its gear just fine whether on the carpet, the bed, the kitchen floor, etc. I inspect the gear from time to time and do not have any cracks or signs of structural weakening.

I don't know how special I am, but the gear are the stock landing gear and with a little care and consideration, I've been able to make them last so far. I don't really "play" with the F-14 all that often, but I'm very careful with it when I do. I won't really roll the plane save just a few inches and I don't retract or extend the gear very much, either. In fact, I think I've done it only 4-5 times so far. This has helped to ensure the longevity of the model.

The only serious problem my model had were the spots, and I fixed that myself.

However, while I get tired of the F-14 whining and bashing, I do believe that many of you have a sound point to all the criticism. JSI really should have designed the gear to be stronger. Most importantly, they REALLY should have ensured the proper quality control when the F-14s were assembled. Hopefully, the company will learn something from this or they stand to loose out on some business.

I am happy with my F-14 and have no plans to get a second. After the F-14 experience, I am also wary of some of the other future large aircraft planned by JSI...
