What paints do 21C and BBi use?

Post by Morian Miner » Wed Aug 24, 2005 6:55 pm

If I remember correctly, I think this was talked about before, and nobody had an answer. Do we know what brands of paint these guys use on figures and vehicles? (And, to answer one possible response, I'm not too fond of mixing my own paints to match). I have some custom Japanese soldiers I want repainted to match the new 21C guys, and am thinking of repainting my Langley P40 to be a Japanese-captured P40, and don't want to repaint the entire bird.

Maybe it's a company secret.

It sort of is...

I've had the good fortune, and somehow misfortune, of handling some paint that is pretty much similar among brands/companies in the industry, and it's REALLY neat stuff. I've never been able to figure out how to duplicate it though. It is very high quality though, very durable (obviously)... It's an area that has really advanced for toys in general as you'll notice they're a lot more durable these days. (Any GIJoe fans will remember their "balding" figures that yout ook their helmets off and on too many times).

In the manufacturing process there's some pretty interesting things... Like seeing the plastic pre-used for instance. Some really weird things out there and the paint's a bit of an enigma... Some brands are close in flexibility, durability, etc., but hobby paints are definitely not the same chemical make up that the ones the toy industry uses are.

I have tried to get a name... Find out if it's possible to buy it, but no luck. I'm wagering that it'd be something pretty much impossible to buy unless in massive quantities.

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!

Model Masters has always done me well.

Easy to find and lots of options colorwise.

Repaint the whole thing looks 100% better and then you can use any XD P-40.
