No vmf,
I'm talking about Jack's ability to be polite.

If he wants to charge $850 for a custom, then so be it. Even if Isiah's prices may be through the roof at MTS, I choose not to pay them. My Tomcat was bought through MTS. They didn't have the lowest prices did they? But ya know what? Isiaih in my opinion, seems like a pretty decent fellow. I'll criticize the hell out of BCA's Rob Miller after the "Onwu" incident at fighting118th and Jack for his never-ending string of disrepectful posts.

It's okay to be polite. It's okay to not sound like a jerk.

NWarty has it ever accrued that maybe Jack is trying to defend his business model, and is tired of the relentless attacks against him..after some point I would be a little cross too.

I don't think he is a jerk he might be a little frank..but not a jerk.

And as for the MTS and Isiah, you are right.

VMF,
Nobody has a gun to Jack's head forcing his fingers to mash the keyboard on this forum in replying to others. Jack stepping on his crank is his own doing.

Greetings:

I've been in contact with Jack several times via email over the past two weeks as he is doing a project for me and he has been extremely polite and cordial throughout the process, answering all my questions and being extremely considerate. Considering Jack and I got started off on the wrong foot with my Thunderbirds F-16 when the tail went missing thru USPS, things have repaired themselves. I have asked Jack several questions and talked to him about various things with the models, he's always answered politely and with very helpful advice. When I purchased my F-14 from him, Jack even took the time to check over the landing gear and make sure everything was there, something he didn't have to do. I look forward to the project I am currently getting from him and know it will be excellent.

This board is becoming a travesty of disrespect. When I went over to the Fighting 1/18th to read the Onwu post, I was even more dismayed. Is this what 1/18 collecting has really become, arguing and fighting and being entirely disrespectful over a few model airplanes or tanks or whatever floats you're boat. I don't understand why people have to be so disrespectful to others around here. I'd never have the nerve to actually come onto a message board and cut apart someone's projects and what they charge to do custom work like some of the people do on this board or what the companies charge for their products. I honestly thought we were a better board than what is shown in some of these threads.

I can sympathize with Jack. Every time he posts a project or something he is working on, someone either complains about the price or about how it looks. It's his work, if he wants to paint an F-16 pink and charge 1 million dollars for it, he can. It's his business and his livelyhood. Who are we to tell him what he can charge and what he should make? I can absolutely understand why Jack gets upset when he comes here. As for replying to others, if someone constantly attacked you on another message board, I think you'd reply too and at least try to offer your side.

As has been said many times, this board is just not what it used to be

Well said on the issue of respect.

I'd like to know what it is about the JSI F-14 and the breakdown of civility between members on this board... The two issues seem to have gone hand-in-hand as of late

Corey,
Are you sticking up for Jack because you believe he's being picked on? Or are you sticking up for Jack because you've given him a lot of money in regards to your hobby?

I'll tone it down, fair enough. But I also expect it (respect) from others, including Jack. Maybe I just felt like finally calling him onto the carpet for his posts, because surely very few others here are. See here, specifically Snake's post:

Jack

NWarty:

I have not given Jack nearly as much money as some of the folks on here have in regards to their hobby. I only got two repaints so far and one project that is upcoming. Jack and I started off frosty after the F-16 issue, so I had been a little hesistant to order anything from him for awhile. But after he fixed the tail and did a nice job on the F-14, we've settled the issue and moved on.

I just feel that every time one of his aircraft or pieces shows up on this forum, people just go nuts over the price and are very quick to point out something that is wrong. That started way before PLASTICFANATIC ever showed up here on this board. I am not a mind reader and I have never met Jack in person, but have talked to him numerous times via email and he has always treated me nicely and answered my questions. The personality he uses when dealing with me is entirely different than the personality demonstrated on this board.

So why is this the case? Is he nicer to me because I buy stuff from him and take the time to talk to him, I don't know. I'm not a mind reader. I do know from talking with him he gets frustrated here, mainly because of the constant nitpicking and complaining about his pieces. Of course he's going to show off a bit, he's a talented model builder. I show off my photographs because I feel I am a decent photographer.

I don't know what the answer is. I just think that this board in general is losing the camaderie and respect that was once shared by its members as a whole. As tmanthegreat said, this all seemed to start when the F-14 came out. Hopefully this board will get back to is roots of everyone contributing to the hobby, being respectful and welcoming new members. That goes for you, me, tmanthegreat, Jack, everyone here.

Corey,
In regards to the F-14/Respect/Camaraderie issue. I'll agree with Tman to a point that it was the tipping point in regards to how folks treated each other on this board.

Long-story-short: Expensive model vs. expectations vs. pricing vs. customer service vs. economy vs. reality ALL played a part in why the SpotCat Incident blew up into what it's become. No need to elaborate but can anyone here remember a bigger fiasco in 1/18th collecting? Hence the emotional aspect. But we all picked on 21C for bone-headed moves/blunders/whatever. Some of us more vocal than others (no offense King O' Fools)

I get the impression, from MY observations, folks don't want to upset the herd here at times. THAT's why I piped up and said something to Jack. In my opinion, it needed to be said after PLASTICFANTASTIC was run off. I didn't expect to explain myself to others for another member's posts. I think his words speak for themselves.

Bringing an end to this

Post by jetsmaniac » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:29 pm

Though I doubt. I am a newbie here but have been roaming on the internet since the term came up. I come to any forums for fun and useful tips, maybe making friends. I don't come here to win over anyone or let grudge affect my real life. When arguments are getting unpleasant, go away. My suggestion to everyone. Only remember the fun part. Life is hard and we don't need any more sources of frustration.

In May 2008 I visited Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum, buying my first 1/18 P-38 there (though I refund due to imperfection later ), then I never left. I believe this is the feeling everyone once shared, and sometimes we should revisit it.

I only offer constructive criticism. I beg to differ with Jack always with evidence and suggestions. Sometimes he took and sometimes he didn't, but he realized I was not belittling him. If I am asked the same questions again and again I will get impatient too. If Jack is an insufferable jerk as one may suggest, why didn't I see any of his customers complaining? They should have more to say, right?

Though I paid slightly less than the MSRP (first one), it's still my one-month rent. When I recover from it I have more plans for him, if he can take this insufferable customer.

Peace out.
