Avalon Hill has posted new pics of the pieces. There is a "spin" button so you can see them on all sides.

They've posted the Japanese MG team, SS Panther, M1 Garand rifleman, Sherman, and Sherman Easy 8.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah ... h20050809a

Hopefully they'll offer free promo pieces
at GENCON. Fingers crossed...

Damn, it's looking better and better. I told myself no more collectible games, but this game is too much in my area of interest. Urrrgghhh!!!!!

Can you imagine using Heroscape terrain with these things? It would look gorgious! Ok, I'll have to look over the rules once more to see if this is worth the $$$......

Go for it!! Don't be scared!! You know you want all of those nice tanks and infantry pieces.

You have enough HS master sets to do all of Omaha beach, most of Guadal Canal, and a good portion of Stalingrad.

Watch the swinging light. You're getting sleepy, very sleepy, you want to buy A&A minis, you want them for HS, you need to roll handfuls of dice...

LOL!!!!!

The one thing is why do I feel that the whole thing will fail and they will start clearing out boosters??? I dunno. I'm sure I'll pick up a starter to get the feel of the game. My wife couldn't believe that a WWII game with collectible figures would come out. SO, I probably got her seal of approval for fund allocation....... We'll see when I get back.

I can see me getting ticked that I got 2 million Garands, 1 Panther, 3 Shermans and no Tigers after 12 boosters! It's why I don't like the collectible thing. It really stinks..... darn it!! But the minis really lend themselves to other miniature rules......

Yes, I know what you mean about collectible games - got burnt with Mage Knight. Too bad that they're not offering stuff like they do with HS. Maybe sell fig packs in 200 point packs? I'd like that alot.

From what I've read, you will get 1 rare, 3 uncommons, and 5 commons per booster. I believe that there is 12 rares. So a case is 12 rares, 24 uncommons and 60 commons. A case and the starter will give you 13 rares. Not a bad selection when there's 48 figures. I have a friend that is buying the same as me and will trade even for stuff. We could do the same. If you have a rare that costs $10 on eBay and I have a rare that is $25 on eBay, no worries, I'll trade even up. I used to do that with Mage Knight. I'm more about fun than making a profit.

Garand troopers are 4 points so you wouldn't need more that 25 for a 100 points - but then why would you use that many? A Tiger is 63 points so you can only use 1 and would have 37 points left over. It won't be that bad. Trust me, I had to do some serious thinking about this before I commited to it. I find more positive than negative.

So, with that said, go for it!! You have the wife's approval. What else do you need? My wife is looking forward to playing it as well. :D

Guess what!?!?!

I GOT IT!!!!

The family and I went to GENCON yesterday and Wizards of the Coast had the new A&A minis for sale. I went and did the demo and came back to buy a few - they were GONE!!! But, one of my sons played all of the demos, collected stars, and rolled these BIG dice and won one for me - costs me $20.

The pieces were much better looking than in the pics. The tank turrets turn AND the guns elevate. They dwarf the Can-Do tanks. They even have the national insignias and are weathered. The Pnzr IV looks like a smaller version of 21st's 32X Pnzr IV without the tiger strips.

The game plays well and is fast. I played a game against myself and it lasted about a half an hour. Although you're supposed to play with 100 point armies they give you less in the starter set. You get 53 pts for the Allies and 60 points for the Axis not counting my "randomly inserted rare piece" - the 63 pt Tiger I!!! Boy was I happy!!! That thing is a monster!!!

I'm sure that whoever picks up on this game will be more than happy. Now I just have to wait until the delivery man brings my order.

If anyone goes to GENCON in Indy this weekend, they give out a free piece with every demo. Be warned, you'll get an MG-42 card and a Japanese Type 92 MG team piece. I'll have to e-mail WotC about that one.

Have fun and enjoy!!!!

That looks like a cool game! Reminds me of the old "Panzerbiltz" game that AH put out back in the 70's. In that game the game pieces were side profiles of tanks and other military units on square pieces of cardstock which were moved on a hexagonal board depicting all sorts of terrain but only in a 2d dimension.

I take it that they are too big for Heroscape hexes??

I'm happy you had a great time at the show. And, thanks again for hooking me up, mate!

immeww2,

I loved playing Panzer Blitz and Panzer Leader!! I still have'em both but don't get to play them any more due to all of the newer, quicker stuff that's out. I mostly play the A&A series, Memoir '44, Heroscape, Battle Cry, and Anaronism. Remember the old days when you could play Flat Top for eight hours and find nothing to attack? Those were the days. I like 3-4 hour games now. Or even 1-2 hour games

This is more like Squad Leader without all of the crazy insane rules and looks alot like Ambush! when set up. The boards are geomorphic like PB, PL, and SL. So far it takes about an hour or less to play this one - and it looks great!!!

The pieces rock and I'm sure alot of the guys here that buy it will be doing all kinds of modifications to them.

Now if they can come up with PBEM for this game that would be great.

C2000

p.s.

At GENCON they had a Stuart, U.S. Halftrack, Staghound, and a U.S. Jeep on display at the AAM site - I played the demo on the jeep's hood.

Damn it!!!! Now I have to get involved. I'll be looking at adapting the game to Heroscape when I get home. Hopefully these things make the brick and mortar stores.......

Anyone Else Notice This?

Post by dfoos » Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:24 pm

I noticed in quite a few demo pictures they seem to be playing the game and their tanks are backwards (guns to the rear). I hope these guys are just enacting a fighting retreat and really know the difference between the front and back of the tanks. That dosen't bode well in my eyes. Hopefully whoever set up that game wasn't involved in writing any of the rules.

Avalon Hill has posted the KV-1 stats.

I feel very strongly about this game. I upped my order to a case and a half plus the starter. This will give me 162 pieces plus the 12 in each of the two starters for 186 pieces.

Dfoos, the tanks look just fine. You can position the turrets and elevate the guns as you see fit. Maybe there will be a homegrown rule or some advanced rule that restrict you to the turrets facing for shooting. I believe the Jagdpanther and the sIG 33 have facing restrictions - "no turret" and "fixed howitzer" respectfully.

I found a forum that has the stats listed for all figs in the first set but it does not tell you what the special abilities mean, it just names them.

http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5636

This game is supposed to be available this month but I also saw/read mid September - I'm still hoping for a nice Labor Day weekend. 8)

I also found out that the third series of booster will be out in March 2006 and will include...a STUKA!!!!! I think that there will be other aircraft in that set as well.

Hey Curt,
How about a nice little 2000 point game?
100 point games are for lightweights! That would be something to see.

Boy, what a friggin' rip off! Hell, I would be more than happy to blow my $$$ on packs trying to get a Hellcat, than blowing $27 for one! I hope that people have the sense not to go for that garbage, but unfortunately, I can see the rare stuff going for that on E-Bay. Just the reason why I hate collectible games. I guess this one will be a real Love-Hate relationship!
