MRC Easy Model 1:72 scale Warbirds

Post by ostketten » Fri Mar 12, 2010 9:57 am

Just received a couple of 1:72 scale AC from the Easy Model Platinum line, and I must say that despite the diminutive size of the planes the paintjobs, detail, & markings are pretty impressive. I got this VMF-323 "Death Rattlers" Corsair plus a Hawker Typhoon for a little over $12 ea. (plus free shipping 8) ) and they are hard to beat at that price IMO. I don't plan to start a big collection of these, but I will buy a few selected types to use in 1:72 airfield and carrier deck dioramas I have planned in the future, and I think they will be great for that purpose. My biggest complaint about the Corsair is the blue paint is very glossy which I don't think is realistic for the type, but it's nothing a light spray of some kind of clear flat overcoat won't cure. These are pretty decent planes. The cockpit detail is a bit lacking, but the paintjobs and exterior details are excellent! There are also lots of paint schemes to choose from and some unique aircraft choices. The price is quite nice as well - usually less than half that of most diecast offerings.

I got into the MRC planes a couple of years ago and collected 20 or so in a year's time...They offer really good detail, especially for the price. I got most of mine at Hobbytown stores, but I have noticed Hobby Lobby carries them as well, and when they run a 25% or 40% coupon, they are a real steal!
I collect mostly 1/18 scale aircraft and 1/32 scale aircraft & armor, but I have one area where I keep the 1/72 scale and they look awesome.

Agreed, but I suppose some compromises have to be made at this kind of price level. In case you guys didn't see my other post in the B/S/T forum, Great models is having a sale on all their MRC Easy Model 1:72 stuff, and the planes are going for just $7.50 ea. and it's a great deal in my opinion.

ostketen, I checked out your other post & went to the Great Models webstore...They had 4 or 5 different 1/72 MRC planes & several paint schemes of each...Price was 1/2 what I paid for any of mine.
Thanks for the "heads up"!

I have the T-34/76 'M43(excellent as good as Dragon's T-34s), and the JG400 Me 163B, Finnish Hurricane IIc, Finn Ms406 and Russian Hurricane IIc.

Just ordered the KV-1 Merciless(same scheme as the Hobbymaster by 1/2 price) on Ebay.

And I like the Finnish KV-1 and the panzergrau StuG III ausf.F

Only thing I don't like on the Warbirds line is the fixed landing gear.

That's one of the things that gives me a lot of satisfaction about being a member here, when I can point people in the right direction for good deals, or they do the same for me. 8)
