Honestly, I found the boxes of my Putt Putt Maru and the Tomcat pretty cool... I like them way more than 21C's old fragile boxes. But on the whole I don't really care about the box design as long as it protects the model from external damage.
We still need more new 1/18 aircraft!

ok I'm lettin my butt hang out here as I seem to be in the minority...
If the cost of the final product is not significantly (subjective) cheaper in a plain box, I'd prefer to go with the fancy art but practical and durable box
I believe a well designed and illustrated box has a big influence on resale value.
Sometimes, its not just simply buying a product/toy/collectible, you are buying into a culture.

Maybe I should have saved my boxes, but I did'nt and really I could care less about the box, but I understand from a marketing standpoint looks sell.
Alot of people will buy crap, if its packaged real slick, almost all on here already know what their buying, but for the first time collector I could see where a nice package would influence them.

would you rather buy small scale models in a cardboard box or have an illustration of it on the cover?

Actually I enjoyed looking at the rest of the line on the back of the box as well as the carded figures. Many times I would look and see something I didn't know was out.

I like nice boxes. Don't have the room to display everything assembled, some will just have to stay in the box, looks better on the shelf then if it were in a solid plain cb box. Just me.
