scale-ish Su-34 r/c

Post by aferguson » Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:48 am

not sure if i've mentioned this one before. An Su-34. Comes in two tone blue-grey as well. About 1/16 though, so a bit on the large side.

upon closer inspection, these appear to be loafers..

oh, sorry, my mind wandered....upon closer inspection i think the quoted length of the r/c model is including the nose probe which is roughly 3-4 inches long. Meaning that the fuselage is more like 1/17 scale than 1/16 scale. The wingspan is 1/16.3 scale but it's not unusual for the wings to be a bit oversized compared to the rest of the plane, on r/c models.

Just comparing the r/c model pic and a pic of the real thing the wings to me look a bit oversize on the r/c model, confirming my hunch that the fuselage length is probably closer to 1/17 scale....meaning overall this is closer to 1/18 scale than i originally thought. And it's certainly cool. Will make the JSI Tomcat look piddly.

Hobby Lobby has video of that jet flying. That thrust vectoring is simply awesome. Check it out if you have time.

if anyone is interested, Aerial Hobby shoud be getting the blue camo version Su-34 in next month. It looks a lot better than the green camo version shown. Also, more accurate as i've never seen an Su-34 painted in green camo.

these are at Hobby Lobby. Decent price too. Watch for boxing day sales as you might be able to save $20 or so.

Would look pretty cool beside your new Tomcats.

Hey, new guy here...So is that a-10 shown on that page close to 1/18 too? I saw the dimensions but dont have the real spec to compare.

probably......i couldn't look up the page but the A-10's they sell are all about 1/18 scale, by coincidence. Needs to be about 36 inches by 36 inches to be close to 1/18.

Thanks for the info. Looks like wingspan is 40 inches, 36 inches long, for an airframe only kit. Wings did look a little oversize.

that's not uncommon on r/c kits. Still, they are pretty good looking and the only game in town.

the news is getting better on this one. The model length is including the nose probe, which is about 3 inches long, so what that means is this is a lot closer to scale than i previously thought. It works out to 1/17 scale now, not 1/16.

Is the green paint scheme accurate? I've only seen pics of it in blue and blue and green, never just greens but all the pics i've seen are of pre production aircraft, not those in actual squadron service.

i guess the green camo is accurate......here are pics of an operational Su-35 in almost the same scheme:
