Introduction

Post by Mark » Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:15 am

Hello all,

I'm totally new to this hobby and to this forum, so I thought I would introduce myself.

I just bought my first diecasts today, nine 1/72 WW2 AFVs (an advance Christmas present from my wife).

I looked around the local shops (I live in Manila) and compared the different lines available locally: Easy Model, Dragon, Forces of Valor, Hobby Master, and King & Country. King & Country has beautiful stuff, but frankly the prices are out of my league.

I ended up choosing 1/72 scale because I like the look and compact feel of that scale, besides I'm in a condo and don't really have the space to handle a larger-scaled collection. 1/72 is also small enough that She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed still finds them 'cute', I fear that anything bigger would likely exceed her 'cuteness' threshold of tolerance.

Brand-wise I've started with Hobby Master because they seemed to have the best detail and quality feel to them of what I've seen so far.

BTW, my other hobbies are board wargaming, and military history books and videos (and even the occasional war comic ).

Thanks for having me. 8)

I admire you for sticking with the board versions in this day and age. I haven't played one since before Avalon Hill went under. Now all I play is Battlefield 2 on my PC.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I picked up 5 more 1/72s today, they really look great on my shelf. :)

I hope Hobby Master will start doing 1/72 Axis AFVs soon, I now have 14 models and they're all Allied.

I've been board wargaming since the seventies. I never gave it up as I never really cared for computer games. The hobby's small but still vibrant, probably about 200 board wargames were published last year. Check out the forums on www.consimworld.com if ever you're curious as to what became of the hobby.
This year I've been learning to play Advanced Squad Leader, the tactical detail in that game is what got me interested in picking up diecast WW2 AFV models.

Hi Mark,

Welcome. You chose a great scale for your collection. Incidentally I just posted a bunch for sale in the buy, sell and trade section of the forum. You can find just about everything you would want to know about 1/72 die cast AFV's at the site below.
