I was looking for ocs, of the Chap Mei model, but could not find any. If it's close, I'll be picking up a few to repaint.

No OCS means something, Optical Centers. I use this all day at work, I just got my wires crossed. A little mental dyslexiaaferguson wrote:i see, so you typed one letter instead of two and that one letter was wrong...![]()

tmanthegreat wrote:I found the Wespe set today! The $30 price comes from the fact that the Wespe comes in a set with a helicopter, figures, sandbag bunker, weapons and accessories. I'll post pictures later on, but the Wespe is larger than I thought. It is between 1:20 and 1:18 scale. There is not too much extra crap moulded on it, but it will take some work to make it look more realistic. The cannon, for one, will have to go. I may wind up using a spare 21c Pak 40 gun - inaccurate, but it will look better.

Yes, I did find the Wespe and it looks just like in the picture above, save that it was packed with the different items. It is a good enough representation of the vehicle, though the driver's hatch is a little to the wrong side and the gun needs serious work. It is a tad bit on the small side, but again with a bit of work, it should work for our purposes.
I will get pics up tonight or more likely tomorrow

i didn't expect this would be a faithful representation of a Wespe. I expected it to be roughly the size and look of a Wespe, which it seems to be.
The gun looked fine to me in pics.....sorry to hear it's not that great in peroson. The Wespe had a short barrled 105mm howitzer, which the chap mei Wespe's barrel, at least, looked to be, sorta.
One solution to the myriad of small cosmetic flaws is to drape it in foilage, branches, camo nets etc, which these vehicles often were in real life. You could also dig a hole and bury it, which was often done with Wespes.
I will still be glad to get my hands on some of these....warts and all. Except for PH making one there is ZERO chance of a high quality 1/18 scale version coming out in the next hundred years.
Looking forward to seeing your ocs tonight, tman.

Well, here are the pics of the Chap Mei Wespe

Now that I have the vehicle out of the box, I'm a little less than impressed. The size is actually pretty good in my opinion and the upper hull really does not bother me. With my customizing/modeling skills and some add-on accessories, I can make it look pretty decent. The lower hull and tracks are a different story, however. Even with proper paint work, weathering, and even some plastic "plating" to cover all the spaces, it still would not look right next to all my other quality 21c tanks...
Anyone want a Wespe?

i think it's dandy....better than i expected. The gun barrel looks fine....just need a better breach. Maybe use one from a 21c Tiger tank.
With a good repaint, a bit of foilage it's going to be nice. Just muddy up the wheels, or display it in a shallow pit, as these vehicles were often dug in, and the running gear won't look so bad.
If you don't want it, i'll take it.
I think your problem is you don't have enough crap in your collection, like i do.....if you did this thing would look like a shining star to you..
