My latest project. Panzer VIII Lion class heavy tank

Post by General Blasto » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:19 pm

Between Work, the Wife and life in general I have managed to work on a few projects. One of these project may intrest some of you. Being with the lack of the Kongstiger in 1/18th I've been bored with all the other items and wished to build a BIGGER, nastier looking German tank. So I've begun a project ;) I wanted to project a scarier looking tank that would scare the h*ll outta the allies. So why not build a tank with TWO main cannons :P

Image

Trust me, this is just a start to this project and is nowhere near completion. I like the look of the Panther body and I like the look of the Tiger Is turret. So after alot of cutting, sanding and making a BIG mess on the livingroom floor, I've got this far by connecting a Tiger I turret on to a Panther body.

Not much for pictures I know

Yet the turret needs more width room and I wish to do something different like put a smaller kind of turret on the top of the main turret for a crewman to have a dual MG42 to protect him as well as have independent movement from the main turret. By wanting this, I need to lenghten the turret front to back and figure out what to use as the smaller turret. I also want to increase armour panels (esp. on the rear) to make it as strong as the Tiger IIs armour. I will also need to "beef" up the engine as well. Then I plan to add the armour panels to protect the drive wheels and track. Hopefully this will all be done, but don't hold your breath on a quick job. I plan to take some time and build a one of a kind masterpiece 8)

I like it so far, but you need to be sure to "Imagineer" (is Disney going to sue me for using that here?) an autoloader that will allow for rapid firing of the guns, with them each recoiling in turn. Kinda like the chin cannons on the AT-AT's.

Looks like the Coeliant version 8)

Now you need to improve suspension as a second 88 gun will add considerable weight to the front and push road wheels to the limit. As for the engine.

And just imagine the recoil when they fire together

But I like it anyway !

The game "Fall of Liberty" has a dual gun tiger like tank in it. Very cool. That whole game is loaded with goodies that should be made for 1:18.

That's a very interesting website! I've sometimes imagined the Germans fielding behemoths of that nature in some sort of alternate reality where the Germans won the war in Europe and were taking on the rest of the world. I pictured the tanks being used as a sort of shock-and-awe assault weapon like the AT-ATs from Star Wars.

Very cool concept. It looks like a battleship turret on tracks, can't wait to see it finished.
