it's a wood model that someone has commissioned and no longer wants, i guess. It woud probably weigh close to 50 pounds, i bet. No corrugations in the fuselage. If someone is interested i know of a place that will probably make it for less. The shipping woud be humongous either way though.

Here's a hundred dollar one, a bit underscale (4 feet instead of 6 feet) but more nicely detailed:

That is one huge model.
With huge price tag as well.
Pretty well done,but as aferg pointed out,no corrugations.
Must be some rich man's toy.

Man how I wish JSI or BBI could make one of these for us. I know most likely its never going to happen, but a boy can dream. I would sell the car just to get it.

Yes a very historic plane but can't imagine anyone making it in 1/18. Would be cool if they did.

i've had a couple of 1/18 astronaut figures that i found, tucked away for years, just in case there is ever a 1/18 sr-71.

The 4 footer is pretty sweet but I would love to have the big one to hang with my jets.

Deffinetly not likely, but maybe someone will push the envolope like 21st was going too with the B-25. Lets all keep begging JSI, like we have been for the A-10; which I think will be in the near future because of the endless requests for one.

no chance of a proper 1/18 sr-71, in anything like a realistic price point at least. Some chance of seeing an r/c sr-71 the right size though.

I may crumble and get the 4 footer. Not sure if my 1/18 astronaut figures would fit in the cockpits, though. Somebody got power ranger figures into the cockpits, so they might fit.

Yes I can. The Sr -71 is a big bird. It will probably take about $300-$500 worth of RTV and about $75 worth of resin. Not counting the time it takes to make the molds and pour the resin.

That is how much it will take to do the A-10. Once the initial molds are made the next one would be cheaper.

The start up mold making is expensive.

so, how much would a 1/18 sr-71 kit cost, PH? And would there be problems with the resin warping and sagging over time, on such a large model? It's nearly 6 feet long. The fuselage of the sr-71 is 105 feet in length.

That quote was for the RTV and resin just to get started. ONLY Not counting the 2 weeks it would take to build the master.

There are different resins I could use but this thing would be huge to do . I would say at least $500 - $700 or more for one unit.

I think that it would be TOOOOO BIG for the average collector . There would be only a had full who could afford this as well as have a place to put it.

i tend to agree, i'm afraid. Well, there is still the 4 footer....and the hope of a larger r/c one someday...

r/c aircraft represent to me, a large part of my future in this scale, there are still loads of possibilities for great aircraft like b-29's, hercules, f-105's, f-111's and on and on, including a larger size sr-71 (if i don't cave and get the 4 footer, which i think i'm going to)

Got a spot all picked out in the hangar for the blackbird to park just in case ph or someone else builds one. I know the cost would be high, but if 500-700 dollars is what it would take, consider me one of those few collectors that has a black budgett and the space.
