Quick camo question.

Post by 12pzd.hj » Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:54 pm

Did the 12th SS panzerdivision wore the normal "Eichenlaubmuster" (summer/spring) camouflage or
another kind of camo like the italian one?
I can't find anything about this on the net...

They wore all kinds of camo. Basically, if it was issued to German units, they most likely have worn it at one point or another.

So, they just wore what they think was best on that moment?

Basically. It wasn't unusual to see different soldiers in the same unit wearing different camo.

No they wore what they were given.
German logistics were a nightmare not everyone in a unit would get issued the same camo.
Also the Germans did not really differentiate camo patterns it was all camo.
I have seen pictures of 5th SS wiking wearing splinter camo which was supposed to be Heer issue.
Also you will see pictures of units wearing Italian camo pants with SS pattern smocks
The 12th HJ also wore Italian uboat leathers that were impounded by the Germans after Italy capitulated.
