Was on a bit of a road trip today and stopped by the TRU in Sacramento, Ca. (near the Arden Place shopping mall). They had four of the BBI Corsairs! Its a very nice plane, but I'll pass as I already have two of the 21c Corsairs. For anyone in that area, the store had a large selection of the BBI Marine, Army Beret and Seal figures, plus about four Shermans, a P-51, and two Apaches that had the pilot figures removed.
I found 1 in San Jose, CA. I tried calling a store yesterday and they said they weren't available yet. After a few emails to raiderad6 I decided to try calling a few more. I found 1 store that the computer said had 3 but when I showed up only 1 was to be found. It now has a new home and hopefully soon will be hanging.
I put some pics up on webshots. Click the website button below. Cockpit, window on the bottom, exhausts, and pilot are all nice. Pylon cover in case you don't use the drop tanks, struts? for wings when folded are good additions. The landing gear seems to be a bit wimpy.

Bruzzer, you the THE man!!! Thanks for the pictures! They answer a lot of questions.
I am officially impressed with it! I'm a sucker for rivets and once again bbi went to town on them. It really adds a lot to the model to see rivets on the canopy frame, eventhough the cross brace sucks.
As I thought, the flaps are tabbed, so I bet their travel is limited. Looks good nonetheless. The kick window, lower exhaust stubbs and the wing brace rods are an incredible ode to detail! And what can you say about the pilot! Excellent! Well done bbi....
The landing gear is definately weak, and the paint scheme is absolute BS. But, other than that, it is one great looking Vought.......

My nearest TRU (Cheasapeake VA) had 2 or 3 today so I got one. The landing gear covers (should I glue them on?) and one of the bombs/tanks (which is it?) keep falling off. I don't have a 21C Corsair so I can't compare. IMO though the BBI version is nice and looks fine next to the 21C Spit, FW-190, and P-40 I have.

I have to say by seeing the photos of BBI's Corsair I am truly impressed!!! Rivet detail, cockpit detail those are just a few that hit me but BBI also detailed the wheel well doors as well as exhaust stubbs, dropped flaps and the list goes on. The pilot is awsome. Wow. The bad points: Canopy framing, landing gear looks weak and the tail wheel is wrong plus the paint scheme is not right but looks ok.
I have to say it but its a major improvement over the 21st version I have thats for sure and I could swap some things from it to update my Kepford bird like the wings for one but the only thing is the landing gear dont look that good and I dont want anything to throw Ikes "Hog" off. But when I get mine I'll see what I can do.
BBI looks to have come out with another winner in my book next to their Mustang. NOW if they would only do a Hellcat.

I agree with you BBI should do something original like a Hellcat for one thing but they have to stop making planes that have already been made by 21st. Although their Mustang was far better then 21st first version. That is until we see the re-tooled 21st P-51 which I think is going to blow peoples minds when it finally gets released.

Am I hearing an XD convert here?? I never thought I would ever hear those words typed by your hands. You surprise me there Mr. mightymustang.....MightyMustang wrote:aferguson wrote:BBI doing a good job on these planes is very encouraging. Teamski,
I'm starting to see the light my freind yes indeed. Even though I do love the BBI Mustang I feel that 21st is going to make it look cheap by comparison, and YES I did say that. Even though I'm not happy with 21st giving no release date on it yet they are showing that they are putting alot of work into it to make it accurate and as close to the real thing as possible and for this Mustang fan that shows me alot. I was looking at the Comic Con pics of "Sweet Arlene" and even though its not the version we will see it still is better then the BBI version, not by much but still better none the less. And it aint even the final version!
BBI is making me mad because of the fact that they aint doing anything new but just copying what 21st is doing. And they can add all the different features they want but still 21st did it first. BBI's Mustang blew me away because of the fact that the 21st version was so horrible to me and thats the only reason. 21st is coming out with the Avenger, Zero and the new tool P-51 while BBI has released the Corsair and joined forces with Bad Cat on their P-51 repaints but thats it. Nothing we havent seen before. BBI if they are to be a major player in the 1/18th field they have to do something that hasnt been done before. Not a Corsair, Thunderbolt, ME-109, Spitfire ect but something different that they can say "We did this first" but they dont do it and that is why they will always remain in the backround. Who knows they may be working on a Hellcat as we speak but I highly doubt it.
So yes Teamski slowly but surely I'm converting to 21st and if they knock me out with their new tool Mustang and Avenger that will be the nail in the coffin.

Yeah, but bbi did kick out the F-16 and F-18. That in itself is a miracle, so I can't go slamming them too hard. My only concern is the A-10. Hopefully, it doesn't become a trend.
There's great things about both companies, really. Let's just hope that bbi keeps up with the surprises and nails a new plane for once. The retooled P-51 looks so correct, it hurts. Now I'll have to get a couple repaints of that, especially if the gear is fixed. If it is, then 21st can expect some major sales just from that alone! There is nothing like a P-51 with the flaps down and sitting on it haunches.....
