1/18 scale Russian helmets and ppsh-41

Post by pickelhaube » Wed Jul 22, 2009 10:57 pm

Hey guys,

I am thinking of making some Russian M-35 's ? style helmets and Ppsh-41.

I will make the Russian Helmet from a stock American helmet and GI Joe Ppsh. I will MODIFY BOTH TO MAke them.

The helmet should be faily easy and with a few nip and tucks should take care of the Mg. Then I will make copies .

Any interest ?

definitely interested in the ppsh...how much do you project them to be? If you modify the Joe one you'll have to make it smaller, it's nearly 1/15....you could also do a banana clip option for a later war ppsh.

I have my own source of helmets right now but in future would be interested in those as well. Better to make the helmets a bit on the small side as the russian figures are dainty.

Do you have pics of what you are wanting to make?

I would be interested in both.

Here is the pah-pah-sha

I am thinking $3 for the helmets and $5-$7 for the mg. UNPAINTED

I would like to turn my IJ Russians into WWII russians.
I would be up for some helmets and ppshs.
Is $5-$7 per each ppsh?
Could you do a pack of so many helmets and mgs for a set amount?

I would like several of the helmets. Please, somebody make these to, Ruskie winter caps. Tri-Gate used to sell these, but do not seem to have plans to make any more.

Pickel, regarding the ppsh-41....I was thinking you could start with 21st's Beretta 38a and work off that.
If you take a look at Grunts German Weapons Guide in Flyboys Fg 42 post it'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
Just something I thought could be a starting point.

Yes, I have seen that head sculpt for sale. Don't want to hurt anyones feelings, but that thing is rediculous looking. Doesn't want to mess her hair I guess. We need just the hats only that will fit down over the head. I guess you could cut the hat off her head and dremel it out, but you are paying a lot just to have to throw the head away. The ones Tri-Gate used to sell was just the hat only and had the hole for a head to fit in.

Well I am not sure.

There were only a handfull of guys who ordered the Brit helmets . I am not sure how many sells of the Ruskies will go out. If i did a special deal and only a small handful are ordred then this project would be a bust.

Just like the 1/32 CIP panels many people wanted them . ONLY ONE GUY ORDERED THEM AND HE IS NOT ON THIS FORUM.

The master may take a couple of hrs to customize. The same with the pah-pah.Then I have to make the moulds, then I have to pour them.

So that would be about $75-$100 of time and materials to make the first one. So if I sell about 20 of them That means I would have made about $40 for my effert.

well i'd be up for 10 or more but not at $5-7 a pop, to be honest. I can make my own, it's just a pain and they won't be as good as yours but $5-$7 is too rich for my blood, to be honest.

How the heck does marauder do them for $1 each or how ever much they are?

i plan on cutting the hat off and hollowing it out.....i'd rather spend the money on a more historical looking hat then settle for a bad one just because it ihas a hole and is cheaper. actually the way it is placed on the very top of the head might make it easier to cut off and drill..

i think the big bear/diana head/hat it looks way better than the hat from the big ben figure.....here's some historical pics, you be the judge:

the thing that just bugs me alot about the big ben hat is that the front is not rectangular as it should be. instead it looks like a house LOL. the triangular sides kill it.....however i do think the side flaps do look a little better than the big bear hat. however, the big bear and diana characters are russians whereas the big ben figure is a british commando. either would work, i just think overall i'll take the russian ushanka hat over the british ushanka hat.

oh yeah, pickle, i'd be in for some helmets like this one so long as they aren't too too expensive:

i was also thinking about trying to make them, but i figure you'd do a WAAAAAY better job than i could.

btw, the reason why i am very interested in the russian figs is because i play the ww2 fps game Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 which is, could guess by the name, focused on the eastern front of ww2. can't wait to finally do a stalingrad, smolensk, or berlin diorama.....only thing that i still need is a t34/85!!!! maybe that 1:16 scale one could work? :D
