Black hawk down..

i was enjoying a pleasant game of chess when i heard a loud crash come from another room. I dashed in to find my black hawk had come crashing down. One of the hooks pulled out.

Fell about 5 feet, onto a bunch of other toys. My darth vader tie got blasted back to it's component parts but is otherwise undamaged. In fact, not one speck of damage at all, to anything. Incredible after hearing the crashing sound. Stuff knocked over, pieces disassembled but can be snapped back in. Otherwise nada. Whew.

I lost my chess game, however.

Sorry to hear ... what size / rating was your hook and what did you have the hook anchored into?

I also collect anime figures, and last weekend a 1/6 figure fell over and sent another 1/6 down ... the second figure lost its hair, which I had to hunt down and glue back. The first figure had some paint damage.

Gravity is such a pain!

Too bad about the crash, but at least the Blackhawk is OK. That is actually a very durable model, much moreso than any 21c aircraft of similar size. It would have to take a really far plunge to bust some of the earlier BBI pieces.

BUMMER!

I'd like to have one of them too.

I use a stud finder to locate the framing, then drill the hole for the threaded hook. I think the hooks are rated at 75 pounds which is over-kill.

PHEW! Glad there was no damage!! Even if a few small pieces broke off and you glued them back on, it would always bother you!!
The only problem I have with stuff falling off the shelves, are the FOV figures on their rubbery stands. I've learned to have them in just a standing position. Looking for small pieces in the carpeting is MADDENING!!!

yes black hawk very durable/rugged. I had my Apache crash a few years back. It fell nearly 7 feet onto it's back and also zero damage, just parts dislodged. These suckers are tough....so are the Hasbro star wars toys.

I think that the mark of a good toy is that in the hands of a 7-year old its life expectancy should be more than a day.

And it honestly is worth asking, would we pay up for models that are sturdy like this? I would.

yes the sturdiness is an unexpected bonus. I think BBI aircraft are a bit sturdier than 21c aircraft. At any rate, i would have hated to have my black hawk shatter when it fell....being that they are getting difficult to replace. Not a scratch on it.
