with a prevailing attitude of 'we should expect to be paying more', that's all we can expect to have happen. If oil prices tank in a few weeks, which they may well do once storage capacity is maxed out, we'll probably enter a deflationary period. Which is bad if prolonged. But it will probaby mean a rallying around the US dollar, since oil is being used as a hedge against the falling dollar.

The inflationary effect of all the extra money in the system will be offset by high unemployment and market downturns, both of which will take money and spending out of the system.

If this whole thing is managed properly, inflation and the corresponding high interest rates, should be of minimal threat.

I'm in canada, we already have free healthcare. It's saved my bacon more than once. And i still think $300 for a 1/18 F-14 is too much. :)

I don't think anyone here is saying that any price is going to be ok, but I also think those people who are willing to pay the higher price tag probably haven't been spoiled over the years by un-realistic pricing of these models. This is one reason I hope they don't go to brick and mortar or at least a brick and mortar that beats manufacturers down like Wal-Mart does.

Will I pay between $200-$300 for 1/18 F-14, probably and I won't feel bad or think I'm ridiculous about doing it regardless of the inclusion of pilots. To me, I think the size of the plane, the features, the subject matter, and how it is made are going to be worth it. Will I pay more than $300 for a 1/18 F-14, probably not. Now a 1/18 A-10 is a different story... :D

I'm willing to bet that JSI isn't going to produce thousands and thousands of the same paint scheme which will make them more of a true collector item and will warrant a high price tag. Something I highly doubt that a brick and mortar outlet would allow them to do.

Time will tell........
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!

Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

Price does matter, but this product has already been priced well beyond the reach of the "buy it at Wal-mart on clearance" crowd. We are now into the price ranges affordable only by the very serious collectors with non-trivial disposable income.

Assuming this actually gets released, it will be the first aircraft to test the waters in the lower-production run, higher priced non-mass market/specialty market category.

No one has really done it before. They picked unfortunate economic times to try it in. We'll see how it works out.
dragon53 wrote:AFERGUSON:

Badcat suggested the JSI F-14 price might be $250, so with an optional duo pack of pilots and/or payload plus shipping, the total price could easily exceed $300.
If a lot of collectors continue to say price, optional pilots and optional payload don't matter, then the JSI dealers who monitor these posts will relay that back to JSI---i.e. JSI can charge almost any price because there are collectors who will pay anything. That's great for collectors who have deep pockets, but in this economy, many collectors have been affected and a $300 plus model is too much. This may set a precedent for maybe a JSI USAF F-15E with a delivered price of $350, etc., etc. That's approaching the FOV limited edition, diecast 1/16 Tiger price range. That's approaching absurd.

As collectors, we should just worry about the thing getting made and then we'll worry about the price. Remember the bbi EF stuff that was at Target a year or two later for 1/2 the price. They had the molds, got a big request, and done. We can only hope..

I look at it this way, with the higher price for the Tomcat and when and if it comes out there likely will be nothing else at the same time offered by Bbi, Admiral, I'd say Pegasus has moved on to what they were doing before, and naturally 21st is done, so it will really be the only "new" aircraft on the market. As a collector I'm in to the repaints etc so I look at it as buy 1 new very cool plane for $250 or whatever or as it was back in the heyday of XD 4 or 5 new planes including repaints that would amount to the same amount of cash. I'd say hardcore collectors with relatively shallow pockets may look at it the same way imo. Plus with being such a limited release I doubt they'll depreciate...at all! I think the F-14 fanatics will find a way to get one even if they can't really afford it, collectors always find a way to finance their toys regardless of hard economic times if it's truly something they just gotta have. JMO mind you. :)

VMF214:

Now that 21st Century is gone, I think this Christmas season would be ideal for Admiral and JSI to release some new 1/18 models. There's a waiting market for a 1/18 Mosquito, A-10, Sopwith Camel and F-14. If they are released by his Christmas, the problem would be how to pay for them and finding room for them.

So you say that there is a "waiting market" for these models, yet you admit in the same post that it would be a problem "how to pay for them". I'm a little confused? :)

COREYSTINSON:

There are a lot of collectors wanting a 1/18 Mosquito, Dauntless, F-14, A-10, Camel, etc. Depending on an individual's own situation, some can easily afford to buy as many new 1/18 models as they want and have room for them. However, others may be affected by the current economic woes and can only buy one new 1/18 model and may not have the space and/or budget for more.
Either way, I think most collectors will buy at least one of the previously mentioned 1/18 models---if they are released.
