what warbirds sport thee most "RETRO" repaints?

List the old warbirds with thee most "retro" of all their repaints.

a few examples;

1. P47's yellow checkered tail version. Although such checkered designs existed in earlier WW1 birds, this P47 checkered tail oddly reminds me of the latter-day 1950s malt-shops with the checkered tiled floors. Its an odd latter-day analogy, yet its still very aesthetically retro, in that very weird sense.

2. P38 - California Cutie - the very dull drab green, and that retro-looking nose-art of the woman all adds up to a very vintage look. I cannot say that I've seen all the P38s so I can be very wrong in stating this is thee most retro of repaints

I'd have to agree with you on the Checkertail P-47. It's my favorite.

I love olive drab, and babes in khaki. 8)

I even like it when I see a Harley Davidson painted in olive and off white, with red pin stripes between the colors.

Although I've only seen them online, I'd have to say it's the "Langley P-40" since the red and white striped rudders were gone very early in the war and are much more common in pictures of US warbirds from the mid- to late-30s. The AVG P-40 would be next, since the AVG was absorbed into the USAAF by, what, late '42 at the latest?

EDIT: Come to think of it, I suppose you could do a Condor Legion 109 (although it would take some custom work to get some of the details right) -- that would probably be the most "retro" you could get on any of the existing 1:18 warbirds.

Like my previous mention of the P47's checkertail potential influence from WW1 birds, one cannot help but notice the "Top Hat" on the Condor Legion 109, which brings to mind the Lafayette Escadrille's WW1 birds and their "Top Hat" insignia.
