Oh, if that's the case then good :D . You read more into than I - it didn't say anything about WWII fighters. Do you know something we don't MM  ?

If it is a WWII fighter we can only imagine....a P-40, Bf-109, P-47...the possibilities! :P

I know nothing more then you do digger. I make a simple statement that I think there is more on the way from BBI and you seem to turn it into something else. That is unless I'm taking your comments wrong. If I am then sorry but if not then if you have something against me then lets clear the air right here, right now.

BBI F4U Sold Out

Post by Charlemagne » Tue Jul 12, 2005 6:10 pm

Well, after my rant, Badcats preorder sold out quickly and actually I am glad. I hope the success spawns more products from them. I see that many of you have made good and valid points about why BBI made the F4U. It's true that the P-51 and the F4U are the basic mainstays of the WWII fighters and its a fairly safe bet they will sell. However, I believe that its somewhat of a $150,000 gamble given the fact you maybe trying to sell to a market that is well stocked with 21C F4U's. Still, I think it's a coin toss on the old risk factor. Do you go out on a limb into the unknown with a new design or go with a tried and true and risk a market glut? Anyway, that's my 2 pennies.

Oh, there's no glut of F4Us. 21st is reportedly out of stock with probably no near future plans to make the Corsair. No "Whistling Death" in the marketplace entering the Christmas season equals one thing--shortage. I know most of us have their Corsair but new blood enters the arena and begins collections all the time. Something tells me that BBI F4Us are going to go for a pretty penny on Ebay in another month or so.

Another factor could be the introduction of "complementary products" widely rumored to exist. This could increase the demand for the F4U even more.

My Ebay guess is $125 each for BBI Corsairs come August 15th. (Along with a few members of this board kicking themselves for not acting).

Kicking themselves for not buying one to sell on ebay or kicking themselves because they will have to wait another month? :P

Perhaps the BBI Corsair will go for a tidy sum but like the P-51 awhile back when it went for high dollars on EBAY then showed up at TRU, I bet alot of those purchasers who bought the plane on EBAY felt sick paying those exhorbitant prices. I think if you can put off not being the first to get the stuff as it comes out it will eventually find it's way to some retailer (most likely WM) where you can purchase it for a lot less.

There will be a couple that will get to that, as but don't panic over the sellout. I'm sure that TRU nailed a goodly number of Corsairs and you figure that there will be at least 1500 made of this paint scheme alone.

what Ski said...

There is no way BBI would do a tiny production run. They would do several thousand or none at all. And as stated, many probably went to TRU with others going to other online retailers aside from Badcat.

Plus 21c loves repaints and if they think the market will bear more Corsairs you can count on more Corsair repaints from them.

There may be temporary shortages but for years to come there will be lots of Corsairs around to buy.

You guys are obviously right - there will be plenty of these to go around. There is no such thing as a rare piece of bbi unless you consider the limited run Jets (and the Assault Raft 8))

But, that doesn't discount what OnWu said, which is that some people will regret not pre-ordering if A) for the ebay$, or B) for having to wait another month. Most of us will be regret free - we are not scalpers, but collectors who are very USED to waiting....(that said if it was a pre-order on a Panzer III you know I'd have my 2 on reserve  ).

I hope to get a bbi Corsair down the line when they do a realistic paint scheme. I really thought we were beyond the days of LM, SP & the fantasy paint schemes...

Supply/Demand

Post by Charlemagne » Wed Jul 13, 2005 6:22 pm

I guess to put it simply, if there is a demand they will continue to supply the planes. I also know there is a demand for new types as well. I guess I just want my cake and to eat it as well.

I guess I better start lifting weights now. I haven't broken down YET and bought the P51, but everytime it shows up at TRU I end up carrying through the store until I remind myself I don't have space for all these planes. Now, I'll be having a P51 under one arm, and a Corsair under the other.

I wonder why BBi doesn't have these at Wally world. Not that I'm complaing about that, just curious.

BB is a tough, independent, veteran, centrally-run company with a healthy dose of stubbornness to boot. In a typical business relationship they set the terms and call the shots. In other words, simply not a good match for WM who prefers its suppliers to be subservient, malleable, with a hint of desperation.
