Rudderless Avenger

Post by gburch » Tue Apr 28, 2009 7:25 am

I bought one of the Flight 19 Avengers when Monkey Depot had them for a few minutes. It arrived yesterday and I just opened it. Unfortunately, it's missing its rudder. I've searched diligently throughout the packaging and don't see it.

Any chance I'm missing it tucked away in some weird place? I've located all the other parts, including the instructions, rockets and torpedo under the "cradle."

It should have been attached to the plane.
Email back Monkey Depot and tell them about the missing piece.
They will either have you return it for a refund or they may do a partial refund for the missing piece if you keep it.

I had a seat missing off my 88 when I opened it up. Emailed MD and they offered me 10.00 off on the 88 and let me keep it.

Worth some effort. If you keep the plane, might see if anyone has a wrecked/dropped Avenger you may get parts from.

Dang! That's what I was afraid of. I noticed it when I first took the shelf box out of the shipping box, but assumed it was packed as a separate piece. So I went through the whole drill of snipping all the wires, etc. ...

I've emailed MD. I REALLY don't want to repack and ship this big bird.

We'll see what they do.

I think I can fabricate something half-way decent from either sheet styrene or even balsa and sheet ...

If anyone has a spare rudder (fat chance!) or would be willing to do a trace and email me an image file of a trace, that would be great. Even pointers to good profiles would be appreciated (I'll do some searching on my own).

It's a shame, because this is a gorgeous model.

BTW, wasn't I supposed to get a funky little ET guy with this?

If your plane is the leader, the Alien does NOT come with the plane.
Which number do you have?

#28 was the flight leader's aircraft and for some reason, they didnt include the alien figure with it. They did for the four other aircraft.

Dont understand why, just they way decided to do it.

I understand your pain though, my Atlantic Avenger didnt have the screws for the wings, I had to get my own. Im afraid that the last little remnants of aircraft from 21C that these retailers are buying up through warehouse purchases include a lot of rejected aircraft due to defects. Hidden away, they might have been bought with the whole lot.
"I can stop collecting 1:18 scale anytime, really I can. OOoh, the new Stuka re-paint! I don't have that one.

The Avenger was never one of 21c's best efforts in terms of QC control. There was a lot of room for improvement. The first batch at Wal Mart were missing the screw covers and they never were able to get the wings quite right. I had a cracked canopy on a Flight 19 Avenger, and a broken prop on my Bunker Hill plane, just to name a few. I saw boxed Avengers with loose rudders and other broken parts as well as botched markings. i think the overall complexity of the model coupled with the inadequate way it was packed in the box led to many of the issues.

Sorry you had to have a problem with your plane, but as the other members said, contact Monkey Depot. They are pretty good with their customer service 8)
